What year is my Boogie cab? Should I change the speakers?

Won’t know until you try. Look for a really old pair, or try a pair of the new and improved ones. Put them in the top row of your 4x12 and see if it improves the tone. If it does, you’re on to something. Get a piece of cardboard and cover the top row, then the bottom row, to compare them. Or just save the cash and follow Zens’s advice.

I've been going through different years of V30s, and to me, there really is a thing with the 00-04 ish ones. Talking to Nolly plus the cabs I've owned I'm paying attention to serial numbers to find them and have a good idea of the ranges.

I just picked up a 99 quad that's only 6 months older than Sneap's famous cab and it's already a LOT darker. The even older ones I've had were quite a bit darker as well.

Both my 06 cabs are completely different. The 15 cab I had was just fizzy. Now, the 06 do sound good with the Rectos, and honestly my 06 OS cab has the best clean & lead tone of all of them, but for straight rhythm tones the 00-04 ish cones are stellar.

How much does a V30's cost these days, brand new?
170$ for the regular version. All are made in England these days. Not sure what the Mesa version goes for, if any different.

Holy shit, I didn't realize they cost so much. I'm in canada, so that'll be over $200 here for sure, then shipping and handling. I think i'm just gonna stick it out with what I got or maybe find some second hand speakers??

Best thing for you would be to watch out for a cab from those 2000-2003 years.

Everyone who is telling you the Mesa UK speakers are the good ones don‘t know, that they all sound vastly different depending on the year. There is not that one Mesa UK v30 sound!

Since I‘ve found out about this, I had three different 4x12 OS cabs.
Mid 2004, Late 2001, Mid 90ies

All sounded different.

And, all cabs even from the same year, can vary in sound. Just the way it is.

I'm actually serious. I'm asking here because, like you, I think it sounds stupid. But I just wanted to make sure by asking here in case anybody knos if that's real or BS.
Bullshit. If they did that you wouldn't be able to replace the speakers, right? So, it's false. They do make their cabs air tight though, like seriously air fucking tight, they even put little plastic covers on the unused jacks.

They’re so airtight because the backs are welded on.

Anyone with any idea when these bad boys are from? Got a little bit of conflicting information on them.

Well that's good news. Thanks! And never let it be said that I'm afraid to ask dumb sounding questions. :)

lol :D

Thanks, that’s what I was getting. I didn’t even know Mesa voiced ones were out at this point.
I was thinking the same but when I googled all I can find is ‘early 90’s’ and no hard start date.

I just checked the one Mesa v30 I have, it is 05GD, which should be 05 July 1994.

Did not read the thread but I had an OS Mesa 4x12 that I just sold. Great cab but I did a side by side comparison with my Blue Voodoo with British V30’s with a few amps and I still have the Crate.
