I understand people who say it's very tight sounding, as it does the "start-stop" thing very well (actually feels like playing with a gate), and it also has great string separation.
But I definitely also understand the people who say its very untight or even muddy...by that definition of "tight" we mean how the amp emphasizes the pick attack on fast thrashy palm mutes (...)

That right there is true for the VH4 as well, IMHO (maybe a bit less than for Hagen?). I just wanted to say thanks for putting it into words so nicely :-). This is also why putting an OD in front of the amp can be cool for faster metal stuff - not for gain but for the pick attack. I think this shows nicely in your video.

... oh and to the OP: congrats! Damn that looks so cool, the two on top of each other

The Hagen is a quite versatile amp. The power amp section has some kind of class A feel to it that makes it really special. I like a lot that kind of class A breath and richness in tone. As for channel 3 not responding as fast to the palm mutes as the more direct amps, I think that some eq tweaking can change this quite a lot. Like it was said here, either you have richness and three dimensionality in tone or you have an extreme amp in what concerns its answer to picking and palm mutes. I don't think that both can coexist in a perfect way. The grunt and fell of the channel 3 of the Hagen brings sometimes to my mind the sound of an amp of a boutique brand that is "not a good cat" ^^

Just curious...what is it about the Hagen that you like better than the VH4?

Hey Man

It just tighter on the lower tunings and a lot more punchy. It has what me and James (Diezel UK Rep) call 'Smile Factor'. You feel more involved in the dynamics of the amp.

I'm not saying the VH4 doesn't have a smile factor as it certainly does but I found when tuning lower it was losing certain characteristics of its 'Voice' that the Hagen retains. For me the Hagen is THE AMP! I know some will disagree and I know some found the Hagen to be 'too tight'. For me, it's just perfect!

Very nice! It sounds like you found "the one".

The Hagen is also an exceptionally nice looking amp IMO. I have changed the chrome corners for black ones though, that made it l look even much more "coherent"

@Peter: danke, ich schreibe dich nachher mal über die HP an, oder lieber hier über pn?
(Sorry everyone for the brief German OT)

That's fierce! :gethim:
