Whats diff between Esctascy 101b and the 20th anniversary?

I prefer my 101b it cuts through the mix just fine especially if your the only guitar player in the band.
I did pick up a Bogner red pedal which I run through the clean channel for the 100b and 20th sound.
Best overdrive pedal I've ever used hands down. Bogner is a mad genius.

Agreed. I tend to EQ the amp a little bit differently when playing/practicing alone. You can get such a creamy, fat and WIDE tone out of it that it sounds great noodling through it when EQ'd that way. However, when playing with a band, you have to crank up the highs and mids a bit. Then, it cuts just fine.

Presence up as well on the 101b (2 or 3 oclock) and its fine in the mix, more so on the 101b as the 20th cuts better as is with lower presence settings (noon)

For me the 20th just sits in the mix better. I had a 101b for about a year and it wasn't easy to dial in. The 20th you can set everything @ 12 o'clock more or less and be good to go...I like that.

I'm really interested in snagging a 20th EL-34 XTC someday, it will be keeping my XTC Classic company.
Speaker choice can play a huge role in how an amp sits in a mix:
My Glaswerks 2x12 loaded with Alnico Tone Tubby's is no match for my StoneAge 2x12 loaded with Scholz drivers with my Classic.

I can relate a story concerning that in detail that resulted in a visit to the Bogner factory to rectify the situation which resulted in a custom built 20th with a 101b preamp section, but do you have two hours?
Most of us? Probably, ya....

I had the 20th XTC but now have the 101B. The 20th Ann. is a better amp in my opinion and worth the extra cost. If you can get it with a smaller headshell, do that because the large headshell it comes with is pretty big.

Hmmm. If you like the 20th better, why did you sell it and now have a 101B?

You need to read more carefully. I didn't say I liked it better, I said it was a better amp in my opinion.

  People seem to get so touchy these days.....

I love the 101B, cannot imagine the 20th being any better or covering anything the 101B can't. I like the chewiness and compression with the 101B's. Never liked the XTC Classic and never wanted a 100B. From all of the descriptions on the 20th, doesn't sound like I would like it.

What's the difference? A comment like "The 20th Ann. is a better amp in my opinion" clearly implies that you prefer it, which would cause a reader of the sentence to infer that you "like it better".

At the end of the day, who really cares!

Look, I'm not trying to make enemies with you, but I'm the kind of guy who will tell you straight out. If you want to argue semantics then go ahead, but if you want to talk about the fucking amp then I'm all for it. CLEARLY I think the 20th XTC is a better amp in the sense that it has a few refinements and features. Just the fact that the 20th XTC has incredibly good cleans makes a huge difference because, even though the 101B has good cleans, it's not on par with the cleans of the 20th. We're not talking about pristine cleans either. I'm talking about the entire spectrum of clean sounds from pristine to hardly clean at all. Given that the 20th arguably has AS GOOD blue and red channels, I'd say it's essentially the cleans and features that put it over the top. The ONLY reason I switched to the 101B is because I started out SPECIFICALLY wanting the 101B (blue & red channels) sound. It is quite different than the 20th as it's more compressed and chewier. The 20th is a bit stiffer and the 101B is a bit spongier.

Then there is the plexi channel which I think is absolutely incredible on the 20th ann. The 101B plexi channel is almost as good, in my humble opinion, but only when you get it cranked loud enough to kills small animals. I think that's something most people who have experience with both models can probably agree on.

I think when it comes to amps, what you LIKE is important, but it's also equally important to choose an amp that suits you best. What you "like" may not be the best fit for your style. That's the way I see it and I don't give a shit who agrees with it or not.
