i've been thinking about getting an amp to contrast my marshall lately.
something that has a good chuggy metal tone - the marshall is great for low/mid gain classic rock/cock rock stuff, but not really modern metal.
i was thinking maybe engl fireball 100, or some kind of mesa boogie
so what's the best dual rectifier out there?
are there differences between the 2 and 3 channels? im guessing yes?

If you want a good dual rectifier, get an old Blackface one, I love the tone of them for chuggy high gain. I have a couple of rectos, and that is the best sounding one I have played.

an old blackface dual rec? i'll try to check one out.
yeah i'm pretty much just gonna be looking for something to contrast my marshall. something different ya know? don't really wanna get rid of the TSL though.
i think my favorite metal tone ever was the youthanasia album from megadeth - so something that can get something similar to that - i know they used VHT power amps and CAE pre amps for that - but im not going to be spending several thousand on a rack set up lol.
i dont really know all the differences of all the rectifiers though.
are the ones that say "DR solo head" one channel amps?

Haven't played the new DR but I have an old blackface and as soon as I plugged in there was no need. There's a thread about these every few pages so the best advice I could give would be hit the search, also check out the boogie board.

Your best bet is to wait for steve k to get back from his trip and the shipping shit in the mid heats to cool down and snag his SN533, looks killer sounds better I'm sure and smokin price.

Cheers!

PM me. I have #635, 2 channel, Revision F. It's not a blackface, but it's a very early version, with the desirable Mark 3 trannies. And, I'm thinking about getting an Ax Fx, so I'm looking to sell.

The Tremoverbs are really nice too - you might want to check one of those out.

Otherwise, try a Bogner Uberschall.....it will blow some air through your pant legs!

If you want that Youthanasia tone, get this:

And some a used RM100:

And no, Solo doesn't mean it's a single channel amp. Personally, I'm fond of the rackmount Rectifiers.

damn those sound pretty good. i didn't know someone made custom preamps for those things. something to think about definitely, although i'd be apprehensive buying something from the EU lol.

A good one is whichever one you plug into and blows your skirt up. My local GC has a rackto and a late 90's triple rec. Forum lore would have you tripping over yourself to get the rackto but the Triple kills it. FWIW I'm not a big boogie Guy but that triple was much better. You have to play one first.
I am a Marshall Guy though and would recommend something other than the TSL for heavy stuff. Not a fan of that amp at all.

Gene (guitarslinger) was the guy that got him to make the Custom 3 module in the first place. Even though he's over in Europe, the guy is legit. You can also browse the Randall MTS forums to see if anybody has a used one for sale.

The best recto i have ever played for me is the black face dual racktifier that i recently traded for my Roadster

Any recto can sound good if you know how to dial it in, also getting a recto and finding a good boost pedal to put in front of it can yield great results as well.

I have a 2 channel Dual from 1992 and a Roadster. If I bypass the effects loops I can make the amps sound the same on the dirty side. On the clean side the old 2 channels have kind of a cool clean sound, but the Roadster's clean channel smokes it.

If all you're after is a clean/high gain channel switcher or high gain/high gain channel switcher then a 2 channel would be ideal, particularly if you're not too fussy about having an effects loop as I find the one on mine generally sucks.

If you're after an amp that can do four channels of clean/mid gain/high gain, plus has built in reverb, a separate volume control for solos and an effects loop that doesn't totally gut your tone then I'd look at the Roadster.

I like both and use both regularly, however if someone put a gun to my head and told me to pick one or the other I'd keep the Roadster.
