Yes, Satan is fun to play. And not just for modern metal, I play thrash. In band context they complemented very well with 6505. I regret selling it.For rock/hard rock stuff, the Suhr PT100.
For modern metal tones, the Randall "Satan".
This is a great combo of mentions and I agree. A boosted 2204 for metal or unboosted for raaawk and a deluxe reverb for shimmery clean heaven. When I was at Sadowsky our guitar showroom had a vintage deluxe reverb with an older EVM12L. I spent many a lunch breaks just unwinding with that amp.Of the amps I have right now, probably the 2204 is the most fun to just plug into and play. It’s just got that roar and punch and there’s not much to fuss with. Different pedals up front can take it to different territories. I have a Dirty Tree making the long voyage from kiwiland at this very moment for just that purpose.
A close runner up might be my blackface deluxe reverb RI surprisingly. I’ve been up way too late some nights because I decided I’d get a little Telecaster time in before bed. 30 minutes I tell myself. Then 3 hours later after playing and singing a bunch of Chris Isaak and Sturgill Simpson and such I realize I am going to hate myself in the morning.
Those use diode clipping? This may be an unpopular opinion - but diode clipping often seems to correlate with an HFC (high fun coefficient). Cameron, Wizard, Marshall Jubilee - instant party.
