Ok, what the fuck is going on. Used to love my Roadster through any cabinet by itself. Enter the Recto 2:100. I've slaved the Roadster into the 2:100 for the L and R effects and have the Roadster running dry middle all the time(effects aren't always running by the way). Now, I find when I turn off the 2:100, the sound of the Roadster by itself is muffled, muddy and all together uninspiring    Turn 'er back on, voila, end of the world fuckin tone(good thing).
Have I ruined myself forever???? Will I ever be able to go back to just one amp?

FWIW.. this same thing happened to me once i had tried using a W/D/W setup. As soon as i went back to a single cab/mono setup i never enjoyed it the same way. I guess it spoils ya!

Once you go W/D/W you can't go back...it just sounds too small. Just think of all the people that refuse or don't want to try it...they are missing out on killer tone.

Any recommendations on delay/reverb settings for a W/D/W setup?

I am loving my W/D/W setup. I have the whole EVH detune thing as my basic sound. Colossal!

Yup, I hear guys yelling massive tone with a small little 1/2 stack and I laugh to myself

Once you go w/d/w you never go back, just got through practicing with 200 watts and 3 4x12s.

Sorry, yes you are now officially spoiled and there's no going back.

My best advice is to incorporate both wet and dry signal in the "wet" cabinets. This way you utilize all of the cabinets potential, not just the wet sound.
Concur absolutely - more of a "damp / dry / damp" setup :D ...I really do think this method sounds much better.

+100 I never use the killdry on my effects, sounds too processed!

I've set up W/D/W in my jam space but I've never used that setup live. It sounded cool but didn't seem worth the aggravation of hauling around the extra equipment to gigs.

How many of you are setting up like this live? How do you do it (mics, direct, speaker placement, etc)? Would it be overkill in a two guitar band?

Anyone made a W/D/W 4x12 cab? Say bottom two speakers get the dry, left and right top speakers get the Wet?

I have plenty of gear to do a W/D/W rig, but haven't because when I play live I would run into the following issues:

1) Usually barely enough room for one 4x12 cab, let alone three cabs, even if they were 1x12s each
2) transporting cabs - my gigs usually pay around $100 a night, and I have a car that one 4x12 fits in. Not enough for me to mess with bringing Madison Square Garden Tone into a venue used to Natural Light Beer Garden Tone.
3) Most soundguys in my area have trouble enough with one mic and one cab. having two mikes two cabs would probably cause them to have a brain aneurysm. Plus most PAs in this area are mono, not stereo.
4) part of #2 - setup and teardown would be a total pain in the ass. The tones weren't great, just passible, but I did like gigging with a Spider Valve II just because I could have it set up or tore down super quick and if a drunk bounced off it or beer was spilled on it I didn't care that much.

Im with the above post 100%. Most gigs I do there is gonna be an issue with space. Not to mention we usually get about 5-10 min to set up all of our gear which is already pushin it to the limit. Id love to have the ability to do this type setup but it doesnt seem practical for me.

That's a good idea, Pete. Wouldn't sound as massive or spread out as three 412s, but would still get the job done. How would one go about wiring a 412 for that? I've done W/D with a stereo cab but this would be totally different.

i'm trying a w/d this weekend with a super champ xd combo as the dry, and tech 21 power engine as wet, just to see how small a live rig i can put together with my pedal/rack.

way smaller footprint than peacemaker 1/2 stack as dry, and i benefit from internal fx on the fender, which fatten the dry sound a bit more, and i can crank up the 12 watt fender without attenuation to get more power tube meat.

only downside is the xd aint no peacemaker, and 1x10 < 4x12 :D

my back says W/D/W with two 1x12's, my ears tell me 4x12's or nothing at all

For sheer tone's sake 4x12's ALL THE WAY. Practical reality and logistics = compromise... F@~k that whenever possible

YAY for Mojave Peacemakers, the best Marshalls that Marshall never made.

hahaha!

I've got the ability to run wet/dry/wet, but I don't like mucking around with so much stuff. I find that the simpler I keep my gear, somehow I enjoy the sound more. When I make it more complicated somehow the tones don't come out as good as they would in theory.

Glad you're enjoying your setup though.

I have wired my cab into an X-pattern, so there's a mix of wet & dry no matter what direction you hear the cab from. That's the closest I have come. I want to wire my other cab that way as well, but first need to get two more speakers.
