Exactly I bought one when they came out, there were ads for them in all guitar magazines. I couldnt get anything worth a shit out them and i swear I paid a grand for one new. Mind you marshalls used were $350 i felt ripped , put in the closet and gave it away in the 90`s. I still dont believe Pornograffitti is an MP1
There was a guy in a local band that used one (can't remember what power amp) in the late 80s and his tone was awesome. He was using EMGs though so maybe that helped? :dunno:

I believe Big Game was an ADA. Pride was 2203, TS9 and a modded Fender Strat, to my knowledge
Gearspace: Questions for Michael Wagener

From a Gearspace interview with Michael Wagener:

Gearspace: I had read that the exact same ADA MP-1 Preamp was used, with the same settings and all were used on the albums by Skid Row, Extreme, and White Lion. Yet, all 3 sound different. Was the same cab used for each? This is definitely a great testament to how much tone truly comes from a player. Do you recall if this same setup was also used on Skid Row's "Slave to the Grind" album. I believe I also read that you still have that ADA MP-1 to this day. Any chance that you'd be willing to share those settings sometime with us? And if you ever decide you'd like to sell that ADA MP-1, let me know...I'm in the market for one right now...

Michael Wagener: Yes, correct: same ADA MP-1, same setting (#45), same cab, same McIntosh power amps (sold, sorry) same mics, different player, different room, different guitars. Yes, I still have the ADA, and I don't want to sell it, but I don't remember the settings off hand. They are still in there, and if I remember (my head is kinda full with the current project), I'll write them down and post them here.

1. Poll is messed up. I'd remove it.
2. Yeah, along with 1984 I will throw out Invasion of your Privacy
3. (insert meme)

1)Yup poll is fu way more to choose from than 4.
2) Fair Warning was '81 so there's my pick.
3) I suck at memes, if I find one I might add one.

Not that it’s a bad tone, and it was certainly different and cool for the time, but Sykes’ lead sound on the 87 album isn’t as good as his rhythm tone IMO. The leads at times are a little too edgy sounding. The one Vandenberg solo on the whole album sounds better (and is more memorable and musically interesting - as much as I love Sykes).
Thats because most of the leads on the album kinda sucked. RHYTHM = a++, leads = c-

He’s confused between Pride and Big Game…

I like Pride pretty well. VIto had great tone for sure.

Remember that time Michael Wagener answered our questions for awhile here on R-T?

If you're not considering the 1st XYZ album then what are we even doing???? and "Hungry" barely missed the mark (91). But WS Self Titled is pretty amazing! ;)

Whitesnake had great guitar tone but the production was not as good as some of the others. Under Lock and Key nailed the tone and production.

Wicked Sensation s/t for me. Lynch’s best tone with the SLO before he added the loop. George told me personally he liked the earlier SLO, which was before the loop. I modded a loop bypass switch in my SLO clone for that reason.

Ratt‘s Invasion... is probably second.

(Assuming EVH is off the table. I’d go Fair Warning for Eddie.)

I think a lot of that has to do with the leads being done post firing and possibly rushed. I think the edgy sound is the charvel as the blue murder album has none of that. Or maybe it’s the curse of Keith Olsen.

Out of that list….hmm, Under Lock and Key I guess. Alot of Rockman in it. Other tones I think are better….most “shred” tones I thought weren’t all that good especially with the Furman eq…
