I was wondering which model is best suited to a classic rock sound?

All of the models will cover classic rock tones depending on where your gain is set at. I would say the SMALLBOX would be the best choice if 50 watts is enough power for you.

The first channel "plexi" will get you into the 60's and 70's era of tones and the second channel "brown eye" will get you the 80's era and on. You'll have all kinds of versatility.

If you meant late 60's and 70's sounds as classic Rock. Then the Friedman "Dirty Shirley" is the one for you!!!

The SS100 is great for Classic Rock just roll a bit off the guitar volume

Pink Taco seems to do it quite well imo, in addition to the other models. :)

The Smallbox should get you all the classic Marshall tones you could ever want or need.

I was at the GC in Phoenix and played the Dirty Shirley next to a 5150. Was amazed at how much fatter the DS sounded. Made the 5150 sound like a distortion pedal

Nico!! Good to see ya 'round these parts...

Talk to Reza too - he had a Shirley I believe. Might still, not sure - but it was definitely a classic voiced amp from what I gathered.

I vote DS all day for the classic zeppelin in a box thing.

Thanks for sharing the video!

I play in a BE100 in a weekend warrior bar band. For me, the BE100 covers it all from ZZ Top to AIC to Journey. I've got two Mesa's that just sit...

Had the BE 100, Smallbox, Taco, DS and DS-Mini.

Best for Classic Rock is Dirty Shirley or Dirty Shirley mini (if you don't need the extra 20W)!

My BE100 can get many tones, but the DS can get that "one" specific area............well.

A Smallbox with a clean boost in front of the plexi channel does classic rock and so much more. Unboosted, it literally sounds just like a REALLY good plexi. (think Bad Company/Free/Billy Squier/early Def Lep/Mountain/etc.) Add the boost and you can get any amount of gain you could want...but wait! Then you can hit the BE channel. You've got the best one/two punch in Marshall voiced amps.
