either a burst or oiled with the ash body
and with a tung oiled body, you get a scratch, you just put a bit more oil on, buff out, scratch gone. plus, the wood breathes and continues to dry out over time, much quicker than with a nitro finish

Well I took the plunge... I orderd a 2 piece swamp ass SD Charvel body and a maple/maple SD neck. I'll oil it with Birchwood Casey's Tung oil. Should look something like this:
