Amp ho
Crazy price aside…

Shitty demos aside…

Who has played one of these and what’s the lowdown? Legit?

Bonus points if you’ve been able to compare to another recto of some kind

@braintheory has one. I played it at his place and liked it, but I’m not really a recto person honestly so his impression of it will be more accurate- he said it’s essentially a rev f sound wise, and from my own experience it can get tight without a boost

Curious about it myself, but when you can buy a rev f for the same amount…. Mesa missed the boat there. Should’ve sold it at like 2500 new and I think they would have moved a lot more.

We texted the other day about it, but my thoughts for others to read: I really like it. Not sure if I’ll still wanna keep it when I AB it next week vs the Rev C, but maybe the best amp they made in ~30 years or so now lol. It actually seems a little tighter, less boomy than the actual early rev recto’s I’ve had (maybe even vs the C’s, but gotta AB). Not quite the same kind of rawness you get in an amps that old, but otherwise it does seem like how I remember the rev F’s. For a recent made amp it’s quite good. I’d at least take it over any recto after rev F

I feel like i remember you liking the badlander.. I know this is off topic, but how do you feel about badlander vs this?

My neighbor bought one and let me borrow it for a weekend. It reminded me of the early 2ch RevG but with more aggression and definitely a lot tighter which was the biggest surprise to me. It was similar to my Uber Rev 2 but not as fun to play and not quite as mean. I will buy one used for sure.

The Badlander was very different. Sold mine a few years ago now. I used to call it the recto 800 lol. It was a lot leaner sounding, tighter, cutting sounding, with a lot more mid and upper mind presence, no huge/fat low mid wall like normal Recto’s, but the same iconic throaty recto growl and texture on powerchords. It was to me though a little congested sounding sometimes and while not bad for a recent amp, less organic sounding I feel than this ‘90’s recto reissues. In many ways I think the Lenz Octane is like what the Badlander wishes it was if you want a tighter recto with more mids

It is a nice surprise that it’s actually tighter and less boomy than the actual early Rev Recto’s I’ve had. I felt very similarly when AB’ed with my Rev 1 Uber. It kind overshadowed it, way more power and oomph, but those amps still don’t have that distinctive throaty, fiery growl that I’ve only heard in Recto’s on the orange channel. That’s basically the only reason I have Recto’s still. Honestly the Rev 1 had a similar effect vs the Rev C too, but not as much from what I remember. Not many amps can rival it’s power/brutality or way it fills the room

Yeah there is nothing like the old Uberschalls IMO. Most unique sounding amps I’ve played to this day. BTW, I finally get my Snorkler today! Super pumped to see what it’s about. Have you gotten to play the IIC+ reissue yet?

Agreed, they are special. Nice, I love the Snorkler! Not my biggest sounding amp at 50w and dark-ish, but might be my favorite voiced Bogner actually. Most chewy one IME and love it’s sticky feel. I haven’t tried yet a iic+ ri. I’m sure I will at some point maybe with a trade offer or store, but haven’t been as motivated yet to go out of my way to try one

Out of the probably 50 times I’ve A/Bed a green uber and a recto, I’ve preferred the Uber 49 times.

But anyway, it seems like the reissue recto is worth trying. Wish I had the F to do a comparison video.

Anyone wanna send me an F for a week? jK…sort of

In most ways I also preferred my Uber Rev 1 every time I AB’ed vs the Rev C and D I had, other than they can’t quite get that same pesky growl I only hear in Recto’s. One of my good friends preferred the Rev C when AB’ed (said the tone was richer), but liked both. He said the Uber sounded more grand and powerful. Feelwise one of my favorites for sure and definitely preferred in that dept over my Recto’s

I've never really been a recto guy, though I know I love the tones that many folks get. Definitely curious about this one.... maybe some day one will show up at the right price. I keep missing when my local shop has one in stock...... not that I need ANOTHER amp.

A Tremoverb was the first big boy tube amp I ever purchased in high school after working minimum wage for god knows how many hours. Was the only amp I owned for probably 10 years after that. Simpler days. Really had no idea what I was doing back then

I have a Recto 90's RI. It's a genuinely great amp.

Agree with @RedB4Black that it's a boost always on kinda amp though. It doesn't sound bad unboosted unlike other unboosted Rectos and the wall of flub they produce, but yeah it's way better boosted.

I generally like mine unboosted for simple. sparser types of riffs and boosted when it’s faster or busier stuff. Especially when it’s just a bunch of long held chords I like to hear more of its thick throaty growl at full force unboosted, but it’s obviously not gonna be effective for fast riffs or most ‘80’s hair metal riffs unboosted. I usually will choose other amps anyway though for that stuff. It’s all about the growly powerchords on the orange ch for me

Sweet. I never turn a boost off with any recto so that’s a nonissue and to be expected. Is it a little brighter than other 2 channels of the past? Seems like it. I find most of the F’s to have a creamier top end. Wouldn’t mind some extra brightness

It’s definitely worth picking up IMO. It has that sound you heard in the early 90’s and feels really good to play.

In regards to the Uber, I’m still shocked you sold your OG Rev 1 and kept your Rev 2.
