Who has played the 90s Reissue Rectifier

Sweet. I never turn a boost off with any recto so that’s a nonissue and to be expected. Is it a little brighter than other 2 channels of the past? Seems like it. I find most of the F’s to have a creamier top end. Wouldn’t mind some extra brightness

It's been so long since I've played the older amps that I can't directly compare, but I can say it has plenty of top end if you want. With the right boost and settings, you can make it sound as modern and clanky as any amp I’ve heard, seriously.

It’s definitely worth picking up IMO. It has that sound you heard in the early 90’s and feels really good to play.

In regards to the Uber, I’m still shocked you sold your OG Rev 1 and kept your Rev 2.
Like anything man, I always end up keeping the ones that speak to me and letting the rest go. All of the greens are far more similar than different. Just a matter of finding the small details that suit me.

A Tremoverb was the first big boy tube amp I ever purchased in high school after working minimum wage for god knows how many hours. Was the only amp I owned for probably 10 years after that. Simpler days. Really had no idea what I was doing back then
Buddy of mine got a 2 channel Dual Recto back in '98 new.. I guess it would have been a Rev G. I remember when he sold it 15 years ago for $700, I should have snagged it then. It always sounded awesome.

Been wondering how these compare to the multi watts, I see a lot of people saying the mw is the better amp especially for the prices they can be had used. Which would be better if I wanted to have one recto for that sound?

I have one. Very solid amp. Doesn't need a boost (w/Emgs anyways) but takes boosts well. Had a two channel back in the late 90's that was the worst amp I've ever played thru. Tubby flubby farty POS. Loving the RI

So much better than MW's to me. Especially if you want "that sound" (the orange ch to me) the MW's and 3 channel versions in general missed the mark imo

I don't know, honestly it's one of my darker amps with a softer inherent texture to the notes. I'm a huge recto fan (one of my all time favorite amps is the Rev C), but it can't get anywhere near as clanky or hard in attack or note texture no matter what I do as say Hermansson's, Dino's, Mako Dorado and a bunch other amps. It's not the ideal tool for that job imo. I play it when I want growl and thick beef and use boosts as necessary to help it fit as needed, but it's not a clanker or machine gun riffer for me

Yeah the Mesa triple was his main tone for a long time. Would be a solid state like 12dbs or so underneath. It makes a little difference, not much. I know the solos were the Marshall valvestate.

He used 5153s for a bit on carnival and the albums after until he got the mlc deal. Cracks me up though if you watch Daniel bergstrand mixing the carnival tone he sucks like 15dbs out of the mid range on the guitar tone. Basically turns the 5150 into a rectifier lol.

I think it's a dark and rich amp too, but it can also be setup to sound great with a lot of clank if you boost it right and get the Treble / Presence dialed in right.

Here's a clip showing what I mean. It's really boring, just a (badly played, lol) 15 second chugging 00000000 riff. I did it when I first got the amp when I was messing around and seeing what kinds of sounds I could get out of it.

Again, not the most exciting riff but if that's not clank I don't know what is. :D

Tagging @Bxlxaxkxe also, as he asked about the amp's brightness.

Yeah I know what you mean and sure with a boost like that recto’s can get there (I’ve done it) as can many other amps (Meshuggah was known for it after all too), but to me (your clip sounds good btw) those other amps I mentioned and the hell razor I feel are just more effective at that sort of thing and can get more clanky and attacky. I could also make my Hell Razor sound more loose and sludgy if I wanted to, but other amps I have are just much better for that. I guess it’s a good approach if you want to play those types of riffs while keeping a recto flavor in there besides getting a Hermansson or other modded Recto’s

Wow nice man. Much more metal than I ever go but cool to know that’s there.

Just to clarify when I’m talking about brightness I’m talking in comparison to other rectos.

I don’t get the feeling this is a particularly dark iteration of the recto sound which is a good thing for my taste

I think the biggest difference is the wizard mid range. It can get clanky for sure, but if that wizard mid range isn’t your thing… there’s no getting rid of it. Don’t get me wrong love both amps. But rectos in a band setting and under a mic work so well, they scoop out just in the right spot.

Totally agree. There are definitely amps that can get more metallic sounding, and if that's the sound I'm going for, I'm also reaching for something like the HR. I was just surprised at how far the Recto RI could go in that direction.

It’s about where I remember Rev F’s being in the dark to bright spectrum. I’d have to AB of course to say 100% for sure. It is darker than my other current amps by default fwiw. I really like it though

Yeah their midrange I never liked, but they redeem themselves for me in other ways with special strengths. It's mostly on chords (especially as they ring out) where their midrange doesn't do it for me. On single string palm mutes or more single note-y stuff it's not as bad. In TheGreatGreen's clip he was doing more the latter and in that particular context I'd choose the Hell Razor every time over Recto's (even boosted with a TC style pedal), but some of those other amps I mentioned I like even more for this niche and don't have that Wizard type midrange

I own a Multiwatt, Roadster, Trem-o-Verb, and the 90s Reissue. I think the Multiwatt and the reissue are very very close. To me the reissue has more mids and the Multiwatt is a little more scooped on basically the same settings. The roadster is darker but still awsome. My Tverb is a very early combo 250x serial number with series loop. I think it’s the best out of them all, but they all do the recto thing very well and u honestly can’t go wrong with any of them.
