Who has V-30s and Greenbacks in the same cab?

I have my Friedman Smallbox running into my V30-loaded Friedman 2x12 and it sounds great. But I was playing the Smallbox at my buddy's shop this afternoon into his personal Friedman 4x12 cab (that he keeps at the store because it sells amps) and WOW... that cab just freakin sounds so great. So smooth, thick and rich. A 3D type of sound. My favorite cab ever was my Bogner Uberkab, but I think that the Friedman 4x12 sounds better. I will definitely have one at some point.

What speakers are in that Friedman 4x12?

It's got V30s on bottom, and Greenbacks on top. Definitely a better way of doing it than the X-pattern in my experience. Put the harsher, louder V30s on bottom, and the Greenbacks on top where the blend as it hits your ears will be good. Put the V30s on top and that's all you'd hear IMO.

Ok, just bought a pair of used V30s on Reverb. I guess I'll be selling two of my EVH speakers when they arrive if this combo sounds great.

Using a Mesa 4x12 with Lynchabacks on top V30's on the bottom.
And a Marshall 2x12 with V30/Lynchback

Works for me

How do you like those Lynchbacks ? I've heard some call them a cross beetween a V30 and a Greenback

I've got a pair in my 2x12. I like them a lot, especially with my SLO. They're fairly warm but still have good crunch and bite. They're either like a smoothed out in the mids v30 with more bottom, or a warmer, bigger Greenback with more bottom. They sound more Greenback than vintage 30 to my ears. I think they sound best with brighter, upper mid focused amps like Marshalls and Soldanos. I don't think they'd pair best with darker, low mid focused amps. That's totally up to the individual though. They do sound really good, IMHO.

V30s arrive tomorrow. I hope I have time to do the install and play loud. But Mrs. Lee is having a dental procedure done tomorrow and may not be as patient with my noise-making while she's on the couch recovering.

BTW, I bought an empty Seismic 2x12 long ago and put G12T-75s in it. I ran my SLO at 7 through it today and it sounded pretty awesome.

I replaced the dreadful t75 in my uberkab with greenbacks, so it's a v30/greenback x-pattern now.
Digging it

I'm doing the same in a Splawn cab. An x-pattern of Greenbacks and v30's. Sounds great

Have 2 cabs with V30 on the bottom and GB on the top. Friedman style.

Sounds great with every amp i've on them yet

Install is done and I just put about 30 min. on it at pretty high volume, since Mrs. Lee wasn't home. Sounds effin' awesome. I am so happy with this mod.

Now, what to do with these extra EVH speakers? Put them in my Seismic 2x12 and flip those G12T-75s or flip the EVH speakers?

Maybe sell one EVH and match the other with a V30 in the 2x12 .

A buddy has both in an Avatar 2x12 and swears by it for recording purposes. Why not have both options? In terms of live use, similarly if you prefer one or the other you can just stick a mic in front of a specific speaker.

i'm really wanting to swap the T75s in my uberkab for some cream 75s. the friedman cab sounds great, i also use a splawn cab with V30s and cream65s in a X. great for taming a little bite and expanding the midrange for some extra grind.

That's how I hear mine. The crispness and definition of the low end reminds me a lot of the V30, and the midrange reminds me a lot of Greenbacks.

AWESOME!! CLIPS!! CLIPS!! CLIPS!! I'm thinking of getting my 5153 Stealth Modded.

Try the t-75s with the EVHs, see how the sound.. if they sound like butt, now you know. If the crush, keep 'em!

Ok, I'm really bad this stuff and always play sloppily when recording for YT. But this gives an idea of the new tone. I think it has more low end than it did. I wasn't playing too loud for this one, as it feeds back pretty badly in this little room.

I love the thunk that GBs add in the v30 mix...had a 2x12 with the pairing in once,,,sounded massive (the GB was a WH speaker clone though...)

 Glad you're luvin' it!

anyone have a good link for wiring up the greenbacks and V30's in top/bottom and X pattern? Are all 4 speakers 16 ohm? Also, is it better to go warehouse speakers or celestions?

This thread is timely, I have a 4x12 that needs a makeover in the speaker department.

I have tried most of the V-30 mixes. My fav hands down is all broken in V-30's and Heritage H-30 55 hz cones in an X pattern. Kills! Perfect blend.

Isn't that Heritage that same that Hendrix used? Is this a balance of serious bottom and of course the V-30 bite?
