Been beating Tonex to the ground with captures.

I love my amps but Tonex can realy nail the recorded tone and feel.

What could change your mind?

I don't hate digital amp modeling..

I must admit, it's getting better every year.

:coffee:

If you mean sell a great tube amp to get digital modeling gear then no .

Who's imitating who ?

I have a hoarding condition when it comes to amps haha.

I wouldn't encourage anyone to sell :)

However, digital amps are so good now that I feel the same joy playing them as I do my amps.

For me what hinders them is the difficulty in finding a good stage monitor which I prefer to have behind me like an amp so I can feel the volume not just in front of me. That and I haven't found a good FRFR that sounds like an amp. I did trade an for a really good one called Redsound MF10 ridiculously expensive for what it is but sounded much better than other PA speakers I've tried.

Software plugins are working great for me.

I'm impressed with the small Mooer offerings, I have their Prime P1 from last year, and early this year purchased their Prime P2 before discovering their S1 which is what I wanted since getting the P1 + F4 - it combines the P2 "brains" with the F4 footswitch format all-in-one:

I’ve been using NAM from time to time and while I can get decent tones they ultimately bare little resemblance to what my rig sounds like IRL. And I’ve heard NAM is better than Tonex and Kemper so I’ve kinda given up on the endeavor. Maybe I need a better DI box or something for the captures.

I love Digital and Modeling amps for playing through headphones.. that experience can't be beat. But when wanting to hear sound in the room, Tube amps rule. I wish I could get that headphone tone to the room but it sounds different to me.

Somehow lost the notifications on this thread.

I have issues with NAM. I don't feel it is better than the others. With amp only, no cab captures, it possibly nulls better but this isn't where it is at for me.

Besides, if the capture of the amp is bad and you null with the bad DI of the amp it is still bad all the way around. I mean, if you don't capture the amp well, even if it nulls perfectly, it will still be a bad result.

Trying to learn how to use it. It literally never sounds like the video ads trying to sell the product and some of the software is not very user friendly.

I'm sure many product demos are using sound engineers and post-processing.

I'll say this, my favorite guitar plugin is PolyChromeDSP - McRocklin Suite. Awhile back Thomas demo'd a few of the factory presets, and I will say they sound almost the same on my system, with the differences in our guitars and skills accounting for most of it.

There's a free version; I recommend giving it a try, and trying the factory presets; there are many, and tough to tell from some of the names, but there are some categories (Dry) that give you a good idea of the amp sounds possible.

There can be many reasons a tone doesn't sound like the ads.

The guitar and playback system being large contributors to the tone.

I wouldn't speculate what others do to process their clips but all guitar clips I post are unedited.

+1.

Also, if you're using powered PA speakers, you may want to try using a global eq to cut the lows and highs.

As I mentioned in my prior post, the factory presets in my software plugins usually sound very good if it's a tone I like. Like hardware modelers, some of the factory presets are just overdone with effects...

The factory presets in my Helix have fewer tones I like, until I started turning off everything but the amp and cab. I also use the global eq to cut the lows and highs I don't need. I also don't drop tune, at most a half step.

What I found to work for me is to create a new patch with an amp and cab, dial them in; then use the default mic on the cab block and move it around to where I like it best, try other mics, etc. I'm in the slow process of creating a set of basic amp + cab + mic + mic placement patches that I will copy into new patches as a starting point.

Yes I do have low end powered monitors and ironically I found that out on my own messing around pretty recently.

I put a very serious cut on a master channel eq for the mids and it sounds much better in my car. Will mess with that some more.
