Hair Spritz optional ...

Sykes sings better than Coverdale.

Great first album , remastered version sounds really good , 2nd album was a little shaky

Love Sykes, but boy, that white jump suit is pretty gay...

Sonny Crockett approved ... ;)

Gotta agree with the white jumpsuit comment but damn! Tony, Carmine, and Sykes! That tone! You can definitely hear that Whitesnake album in the tone/playing/writing there. Coverdale's never achieved that magic in writing again since then, even with the incredibly stellar players he's had since....

Yah .... WS definitely lost its better half when John walked.

I remember that Blue Murder album, um, murdering that pos Slip of the Tongue album.

Yeah, when Vai and Vandenburg joined the band all the balls in the sound of the band left with Sykes. As great as Vai is there's just a certain style of hard rock bad ass that he just doesn't have.

Sykes is from the Gary Moore school of balls to the wall wailing

Blue Murder got zero airplay on any rock stations. I remember having to seek it out in record stores.

That's the way I remember them.

The story goes that Geffen was swinging from Coverdale's nutsack after the "1987" album, and at Coverdale's request the company buried Blue Murder as much as possible.

Agreed that Sykes is a better vocalist than Coverdale.. great 80's songwriter and a total stud on the guitar. No question there. My question would therefore have been more like " who HASN'T heard of Blue Murder"?

I liked Blue Murder, but unlike others here, I don't care for John's voice. It's not bad, but in 1989, Coverdale killed him vocally (the opposite is true today). The second release had Kelly Keeling on vox originally (he's still on one song) and John pulled a David and let him record the whole thing, then canned him and recorded his vox over the top of what Kelly did, leaving Kelly in the mix a tiny bit to thicken up his own tracks. I think the release would have been much better had he let Kelly stay on.

John is a killer, killer guitar player though. It's too bad he lost the fire to write new music (though Nuclear Cowboy was pretty bad, so maybe it's best).
