“The start of the wear would have been around 1965 or ’66, when the guitar got stolen,” says Daniel. “They actually did a little piece on Ireland’s version of Crimewatch! It was very condescending, it was this thing on RTÉ called ‘Irish Police Watch’ or something like that [It was actually RTÉ Garda Patrol – Ed] and it was like, ‘Oh and a young man with long hair has had two of his guitars stolen…’ – I think it was the Tele and the Strat – ‘If anyone sees them, they look like this…’ and a picture went up on the screen. I really want to find that footage from RTÉ’s archive!

“But they got dumped in a ditch about two weeks later, because the guy couldn’t sell them – obviously! They’d been on telly, and it was probably the only Strat in Ireland, there probably weren’t that many Teles, either – so they were going to be hard to shift!

“So because they were too hot, he dumped them in this ditch, where someone found them and two weeks later, Rory had them back. But I think it got a bit of water damage from that, and probably a lot of scratches from brambles and all that, plus Rory’s constant playing of it just wore it away!”

That's pretty fucking extreme, but Nash guitars are really fucking good

Yup. Nash is serious 'Small Builder' stuff.
He wouldn't have built that monstrosity unless there was a firm market.

FUCK YEAH MAN.
All day & night & next week!
By choice?
It’s a bit on the “Acid Worn” flavor of the vibe.
However, Nash guitars are fat sticks
of woody butters.
-you can make those fuckers sing.

With that finish acid housed’ down?

-That guitar sorta’ still thinks it’s a tree.
And THAT!!!
Qualifies for one HELL of a blues guitar.

I guess I can't blame Nash for making what people want but I still lose a little respect for any builder that does that. I keep wondering what will become of guitars like this years down the road. You can always relic a guitar but it's gonna be way harder to unrelic a guitar.

There's a business idea...unrelic'ing otherwise good guitars.

I just thought; I removed the neck and am now repainting/touching up a paint chip that occurred at the periphery of the neck plate. Something you couldn't see unless I told you where it was. Why? Because its a fucking paint chip and it should not be there and I didn't want it to look shitty. So that should be an example of what I think of relics. WAY easier to build a guitar with chips/dings/etc than it is to build a perfect guitar...and these guys hide behind 'relicing'. Pathetic.

Playing a relic’d guitar to me is like putting a bump on your head by smashing it into the wall, bloodying up your knuckles on the concrete ground and claiming you got into a brawl and beat the dude up. Shits fake

Unless you are making a replica of Mick Marr's guitar that looks almost identical to Mick Marr's guitar who I think we can safely say did not relic his guitar to get internet cred

I don't get the whole relic thing. I don't necessarily baby my stuff but if any of my stuff looked like that if would bother me.

Meh, it’s just a finish. So, a color. Who gives a fuck what color someone wants his instrument. Nash makes great guitars—if no one liked the heavy relics he wouldn’t make ‘em.

See in my mind that's totally different. Its a tribute guitar and cool af.

And the whole color-over-another-color-relic'ing? It's like guitar relic one-upmanship.

Retarded.. It's like bypass all the playing and touring to just buy a beat POS. Instant Guitar God.. LOL

Stevie Ray Vaughn played that POS Fender because that's what he could afford..

Leave it to some fuck marketing department to attach glory to shit..
