I have been a happy MOD50 owner for about 3 years. I am a gear whore and cant belive I have owned this amp and used it as my main amp for that long (record for me) I am also a bit of a gear snob. I love to find a lessser known or highly sought after tone/amp and love getting the "man what is that" question at gigs. Soooo with dudes on this forum I thought would never sell their MODs doing so and for the same amp (PT100) it made be GAS for something new. Also I wish Egnater would have changed the "look" of the mass produced amps (like Bogner did the all black thing for his). Cause now I get "yeah just got an amp like yours for 1400 at... it's great). Not that I think the tourmaster or other Egnater mass produced amps are not great just made my MOD50 loose some of it's cool factor haha (yeah I am shallow eh). So I started hunting for a 2-3 channel amp that does what I need and I am not finding one yet and feel silly even looking cause I still dig the MOD50. I dunno anyone else feel like me?

I bought a Bogner 20th Ann Ecstasy last week and also traded in my Mod50 for it. To be honest I dont really miss it. I still have my Mod100 and M4. I dont think I would sell off all my Egnater Module stuff. It is possible I would sell the Mod100 but the M4 would stay in my rack with the RT 2/50.

For what its worth, the MOD 50 is amp I had the longest since I got serious about tone. It really is a great amp. The flexibility, great FX loop, awesome master volume, USA build quality, reliability and great tone really is an amazing package for around $2000.

So why am I going to PT-100 then? Simply put, I was at NAMM and that amp practically made my head explode. It has everything I loved about the SLO without any of the things I hated. I forgot how "polite" the MOD 50 is until I heard the PT. The PT has that punch and aggressiveness that my SLO had, that the MOD 50 really doesnt. Some may call it "balls". Im sure alot of you will disagree and say "I play metal with MOD 50" or "My MOD 50 has plenty of balls!" and I would have said the same thing if I hadnt listened to other amps like the PT close in time to each other. And the amount of "balls" may also just be enough for you with the MOD 50. Maybe its the 50 watt power section, but the MOD 50 just sounds noticably smoother and more polite to me than the PT-100. Note that thats not necessarily a bad thing depending on what you are after.

Also, I figure "why not?" make a switch now. MOD 50s are readily available both used and new now. Used ones are practically being given away (like mine was). So, if I decide I want it back...Ill just get it back!

And I have all my modules for sale now, but I may very well run some modules in my loop with E2 when/if it materializes. I figure sell them now and get back what Im missing later (again because they are so readily available in the used market)

I just felt like trying something new and the time seemed to be right for it. My opinion of Egnater has not changed. Its top notch stuff built and supported by some of the nicest people in the industry. But with the current state of the market, it seems like a good time to try something else that has peaked my interest.

Dude, you need a Suhr car!!!

When you get to a certain level of amp, it's really like picking which flavor you like from the soda fountain. Sometimes you want coke, sometimes you want pepsi, or sprite, or Dr. Pepper, etc...

I sure wish there was a local place that stocked all this great stuff from the manufacturers on this board where you could sit down, try everything out, and make an informed decision.

Either that or some sort of "try before you buy" system. I think that would curb a lot of GAS.

Ya I'm kickin myself in the ass for selling the Mod100 but that gas is bad thing.Never gonna get rid of the M4 tho

I totaly agree with you on that point. I play metal of various genres in a couple of bands and "projects" and I really love the MOD 50 but it definately lacks som serious "BALLS".

Yeah guys the "balls" is exactly what I feel is missing. Even my old block letter 5150 has that (but it also has a bunch of fizzy disharmonic overtones and other issues). I wish I had an amp that could do bluesy cleany/breakupy stuff (think BMAN), do ratty marshally loose sludgey and then agressive tight as hell metal. I can get close using BMAN, SL2X and EG5 but some of that "balls" is missing. Anyone know an amp that does all I describe in their opion?

I have been in your shoes FIVE times with the Egnater amps.
Great amps.....dont get me wrong. But that "perfect" amp you described?
Its the Rivera KR7(at least to me) It can do it all and it does it GREAT!
I been thru a SLEW of amps the past 10 years and this is the 1st amp that has a great FEEL on ALL THREE CHANNELS!! I know its a "Slipknot" amp.....but its WAAAAAAAY more then just the All Balls out brutal.

I never "got" Rivera. Every one of those Knucklehead amps I played were a fizzy, undefined mess. I thought they were some of the worst "boutique" amps I ever encountered. But of course YMMV!

Telefied, have you tried PT-100 or OD100SE+? Depending on whether you like high (PT) or low (SE+) mids, those might be closest to what you are looking for.

I have actually never been in the same room as a CAE amp. But I dig clips I have heard. I do not know enough to understand the diff between OD and PT so thatnks for the mids description. The clips of the PT-100 seem a bit to modern sheesh I am not sure I mean that. Basically they sound a bit shredder friendly and not as loose as I dig. It is possible that is the player or a seting on the amp. Overall the vids/clips of the CAE amps are awesome! I need to hear these in person.

weird.....mine isnt a fizzy undefined mess.
:dunno:

Sounds better than the MTS stuff I had. But to each their own.

There is a negative feedback knob on the back of the amp that basically lets you tighten or loosen up the power section as you see fit. It can be incredibly tight or saggy, up to whoever dials it in.

Check out the Pete Thorn demo. Its very accurate as to what the amp can do.

I havent played many of them. I think I tried out one or two and it didnt work for me. But maybe I didnt crank it or dial it in properly. who knows. Its entirely possible there is a great amp in there. I just didint find it. :)

Going to youtube hunting for the Pete vid now thanks for the tip

When I first got into Egnater 4 or 5 years ago, I bought an M4 from Frank and hooked it to the power section of my Marshall DSL 100 and it was a huge improvement over the Marshall. Later bought a VHT 2502 thinking it was the right way to go for a "rack system" and guess what? "NO BALLS" Frank took back the M4 and sold me the MOD100. Major Hairy Balls!

IMHO, A 100 watt power section is were the balls are.

The Pete vids are good but check out Aeorics78 on youtube. He and a few other members are in the Suhr booth and the audio quality is better IMHO.

I agree and I feel a 100w also will have more head room which is great for a clean channel.

Wactched the Pete vids on youtube pt100 (just FYI I am monitoring in a pro control room with HR824s as the mains and E3s are the secondaries) ans the clips sound great for him. Noting struck me as leaps and bounds beyond the MOD50 but again I am not in th same room as it nor "feeling" it as I play. Sounds awesome but not awesome enough to blind sell off the MOD50 and buy. The negative feedback knob is a great add. I have one of those on this modded fender super reverb here that is really effective.

Hmmmmmm MOD100 has balls you say and 3 module slots hmmmmm could be a good idea.... sheesh wishy washy again haha
