That’s cool if the 3 channel’s can be modded to get that voicing or closer to it, but the real problem I’d see there is that the 3 channel Recto’s don’t inherently have that more organic, warm, raw quality like the older Recto’s or older amps in general. They have that colder, less lively new amp sound and so even if the voicing is matched with the mod I don’t think the organic, raw quality is capable of being matched with them. My Badlander has the same problem being also a newer amp, but has other qualities about it that made it say like it’s growl and tightnessI totally agree! I love the voicing of these early Rectifiers, but I still keep my Rev Gs around because they sound so much different…so much more “Rectifier” like.
Since these early Rectos are becoming increasingly more rare, I do recall a mod that was rumored to voice the 3 channel Rectos similar to the early Revs.
Around a decade ago, fluff and I were trying to figure out if it was possible to mod a 3 channel and have it voiced closer to the early Rectifiers, and after a few years, I believe it was fluff (or maybe it was Jerry at FJA that modded fluff’s non-multi-watt 3 Channel) that came up with a convincing mod. It wasn’t the “Presence Mod”, but something more similar to a Pre-500.
I personally never tried the mod, but I do remember the clips I heard sounding very, very similar. For anyone feeling adventurous, that is dying to try an early Recto, there used to be a thread over on the “forum for beach accessories” that will guide you through the mod step-by-step
