Why can’t we produce vacuum tubes in the USA?

I don’t know of too many builders that could rely on building as their sole source of income even befor lockdown. Most people don’t have an appreciation for handmade to justify the price and you really need to have a staff to donut at any profitable scale like BAD. Add transformers to the list of casualties. Mercury is really expensive and their main guy Patrick recently passed away. Classic Tone is gone. Heyboer is slow from what I hear and the New Sensor falls under EHX (Russian)
It's sad.

Patrick died? He sold me my 5150 II MM OT. We spoke for hours. Damn that sucks :(

Yes, not too long ago. An aggressive form of cancer. It didn’t take long until he succumbed to it
Cancer eh? If only we could hide from it and protect each other from it with masks and isolation.

Back in the 90s I saw the writing on the wall with where we were headed with production and it is now actually it is happening.

I was talking one day about China and how they were not producing the car, the computer, the plane, etc but were producing the needed guts for those items. I felt like our war with China would just be a factory worker flipping a switch.

Look at where we are with our dependencies on other countries. China and Russia courted countries like Venezuela, African nations, etc because of the resources. There are so many things not made here and those phone components, etc are going to bite us in the ass.

Thankfully we are starting to wake up and Intel and other companies are building facilities here and it is allowing us to have key components and also create work. I love that there is a global community but we need to make sure we don't lose essential items. Our country doesn't look far enough ahead sometimes.

Seems like transformer shortages would become bigger than tube shortages. I'm talking big iron, not that little ones people are using these days.
