I only see this being done constantly with Marshall amps and cabs

Any reason people keep doing this?

On heads, they always tape over the large marshall logo and tape over the model number/name
I see it occasionally on cabs too

For years and years i keep seeing marshall being covered up

I don't care, but i just want to know if someone can fill me into why guys do this?

During gigs? It could be because they don't want to advertise for any company for free.

alot of punk bands do it because they don't want to be "corporate"

But we are still going to make some music videos, cool looking t-shirts, and do magazine interviews.

and have brand names sponsoring punk festivals like the Morecambe Punk Festival, sponsored by the Morecambe Hotel and Tourism Association

it's simply not cool. it would be like wearing a hat, shirt or shoes with the nike swoosh on it. i put tape over my sean john tag when i'm out pimping

You'll notice they do the same thing when the bands are on Leno or Letterman. Keyboards and amps. Most times it's not the bands, it's the network preventing free advertising. They do the same thing with tv shows for instance using fake food/beverage products with fake names.

I always thought it looked pretty stupid to cover the logos too, but I understand why people do it.

The other ironic thing is that you can get in trouble to adding logos to copies of stuff. For example adding a logo to a home built cab. I think the issues comes when you try to sell the cab as if its not a copy...

I take all the logos off my gear for the same reason I don't wear Old Navy or Gap shirts...I am not a billboard.

I ripped the logo off my JCM 800 2210 because I thought it looked cooler with the straight black baffle. Of course I was drunk at the time. :scared: Did the same thing to my cab as well.

Didnt have the heart to do it on the Superbass. :D Then again I like the way it looks on the Superbass since it doesnt have that grillcloth front.

People do it so the logo doesn't fall off.

On another note, the latest craze these days is to play without a shirt and put tape over your nipples. Give it a try, you'll see why all the cool cats are doing it.

On My Old cabs the logo's are so old that they can become brittle and have cracks and missing letters..i just leave them that way. All of my JMP heads i keep the logo because they're faded and look cool, but on my 82' 800 head I removed the logo because Its huge and bright white and just doesnt look cosemetically cool with my other gear. I was doing that before that commie Tom Morello too. : )

Sorry, I probably should have mentioned not to use duct tape for the nipple taping. That blue "painters tape" works best, in an X pattern.

Have you gained some weight Bob? :D

I have, but that's Chris, not me. I mentioned the nipple taping thing to him a while back. He's a very trendy guy and immediately adopted the new trend. Little did we know how sticky duct tape is. We've refined the methodology. Blue painters tape in an X pattern is best.

I took the Line6 badge off of my cab because, well...... it's a Line 6 cab.

If you're starting from scratch, go with the blue painters tape. If you've already done the duct tape recently, you can continue with that with no problems. The extra stickiness helps when I'm sweating my hairy ass off during a rock show.

True, the callouses form almost immediately after the first tape removal. Plus, you'll never be bothered by another Purple Nurple either.
