Why do people really consider the VH4 a Metal amp?

Honestly....TO ME it's WAAAAAAY better at pop-rock/classic rock than MEtal.

It does get VERY heavy, but seriously.....have you guys played a Strat with a VH4? ch1 is pure glory, ch.2 is SEXXXXXXX....blues for daaaaays. ch3 with single coils is THE most beautiful classic rock tones available, and ch4 is just something else entirely.

I don't know man, but I think people REALLY use 10% of what this amp can do. I've even heard/read people say they only use the VH4 channel 3

To me this amp is NOT a metal amp....for real. It can do metal, but to me, it's not what it was built for.....even if PEter built it for MEtal.....the end result is a pure rock amp capable of going to the extremes (metal/blues/jazz) without even coughing.

oh and BTW, to me THE BEST channel in this amp, is Ch.2 from clean to boosted JCM800 tone?. fuck you can even play 80s metal with this channel alone :)

Previously I owned a powerball, a classical matal stuff head...bypassing the noise
issue (a solid gate in the amp as the satriani peavey)..with my rr1 usa, bare knuckle
miracle man at the bridge the vh4 smashed down the powerball in every aspect.
Of course in ch2 gain at 11 is enough for me using that guitar and in ch3 at 1
sometimes 2 if i play at low volume is more than enough for absolute sonic mayem,
sonic mayem yes..but controllable. :)
Vh4 can do metal and nu metal but using it only for those style is like to have a
ferrari and never push the engine over 6.000 rpm.

EXACTLY!

I find that around these boards, and HCAF, hell even Youtube.... people always go after the VH4 as a Metal amp....sometimes they go straight to Ch.3. I once saw a video of a guy playing the VH4 and the dude what talking about how killer the amp was and how blown away he was with the amp, and at the end he said "I've only played ch.3 for now, but to me that's more than enough!"

Seriously, if I was Peter I'd be trully mad because most of the people view Diezels as heavy amps, and that shit ain't true at all. I'm using my VH4 to record my album and give me a few months....you'll see what a Vh4 is reallly capable of......people will not believe the center tone of the album is based on a VH4.

The VH4 is a session musician's dream. Does EVERYTHING. No compromise.

This. The VH4 is not "solely" a metal amp. It is a session musicians dream amp. Very versatile.

Channel 3 is the only reason I bought the VH4. There is no other duplicate around. Channel 1 is like all others, Channel 2 can be recreated. To me Channel 4 is a little too compressed. I was after one particular tone and got it and that is Channel 3 with the gain dimed. And, I am 100% pleased with the amp. As a matter of fact, Peter could build this as a single channel amp, voiced around Channel 3 and I would still buy it!

I can't say what the VH4 is good at because mine is due to arrive today, and so I've not played with it yet. However I didn't buy it because it's good at metal, I bought it because it's good at everything (reportedly), I also have a cab on order which isn't a 'metal' cab, it's the rear hempcone 4x12, which I'm hoping will really shine with the non metal stuff (I've got a v30 loaded Orange 4x12 as well)

Actually Joeytpg, it was one of your samples of a bluesy sound that sold me on the VH4, I knew about it's rock and metal credentials, but hadn't heard it's 'lighter' side. So thanks for that.

Oh well, here's hoping UPS don't drop it! :)

well dude if you bought it because of those qualities, hold on because you're in for a treat!.....this amp is one of the best amps that's ever been built.

I'm talking about a REAL gem here. Like I said if it wasn't because so far Diezels have had a silly "metal" reputation, which I'm sure in time will get away from with amps like Schimidt, and player like Andy Woods demonstrating it, this amp would be right there with the JCM's, Fender Deluxe, Vox AC..., you know what I mean? CLASSIC amps. Maybe I'm smoking something, but that's just how I feel about the amp. It's a portal.....you can go to the heavy realm, but you have a free ticket to the "classic-rock/blues" realm too, just don't get too caught up in the heavy realm and visit us at the other side! :D

Steve my friend, you're one of the few around here that are allowed to use the VH4 for only one purpose, you're cool in my book! :D

btw, talk to me about the Axe....I'm ordering one.....(if you don't mind in a PM so to not hi-jack this thread :))

      With a patient owner - no one within this company (of power coating) has ever mixed a candy finish with a glow in the dark coating, so to see if it works they're getting a sample made by the American side of it; (the company I'm dealing with = English, the company they get their power coat stuff from = America). They're going to produce the result, thus hopefully Candy-lime-glow-in-the-dark-green, here I come! If now, Candy Lime Green shall do  Utterly can't wait, it's going to rule sooo much either way.

not at all.... I love the leather pants. I gotta get me some leather pants for when I start giggin'!

Olaf, weren't you gonna save for a new VH4? honestly man, out of the Diezels, how would you rate then from 1 to 10 based on your taste of tone? (don't worry you can rate then 9.6, 9.7,9.8, 9.9,10 hehehee :P

11 for the Herbert, 11 for the VH4 and 12 for the Einstein. I was an idiot to sell it - at least I could make HairyChris happy :D

You sold him that strange proto one? Cool! He's just acquired the utter most sickest looking 7 string Blackmachine going

Strange? :gethim:

I created the frontplate, made the infamous wobbly grille and such . . . :D

Its an awesome amp, the only head with reverb - I needed money at that time urgently . . .

Strange = different to the normal ones :student:

Cool man, is the reverb midiable? That'd be pretty awesome/conveniant anyway.
