Ha - I've been using a hair tie ever since I started playing 7 string. I never had any string noise at all until I started playing Ibanez/Floyd's about 5 years ago, but when I started playing 7 string it was more obvious.
I feel absolutely no embarrassment using a hair tie. Shit - I'd wear one on my cock if thought it'd help.
