Hi everyone! Was wondering how the Ground Zero Hellion v2 compares to a Wizard MTL2?... anyone have experience with these?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

I feel it would be more fair to compare hellrazor and hellion. The mtl2 is a solid amp. But the other two are fucking beasts.

However, this is a time when you would want to play them to see what voicing you like. They all will have punch. The hellion is much tighter than the mtl2 and tighter than hellrazor. The hellrazor is like a mtl on steroids. It is one of the best amps i have come accross. Maybe the best.

I would like to spend more time with the hellion. It is a very special amp also. But i feel like it has so much versatility. And i think the hellrazor is going to be more specific.

The mtl2 is a fun amp, more low mid than some of the wizard offerings, but still that wizard high end. It will do everything you need and have punch for days, but you will want a boost with it for certain stuff.

Good. I tried to give info without rambling too much. It is a fine line.

Congrats!

How did you end up liking the Hellion? Has been on my shortlist for a while as well

I do love both wizards still

Necro...never owned MTL MK2 but a Hybrid and MTL MK1 and many many other Wizards and the Hellion is quite different. Wizards are Wizards, not gonna try and explain, you just have to play one to know.

The Hellion is just as good, but in its own unique way. Hellion has so many shades and characters, so much tweakability to tone, voicing, response/feel/attack. Its a beast but nothing will do the Wizard "thing" like a Wizard except a Wizard.

I'm a self proclaimed Wizard whore but the Hellion has been with me longer than any other amp. Its really really good.

+1 I've got a Hellion, just picked up an MCII, and despite both having a Marshall lineage they're definitely different amps.

I think the Hellion is the way to go, honestly. As mentioned by Mike, the tweakability is unparalleled. Jeremy’s whole idea with the amp is for us OCD dudes that are always looking for that extra 10% or even 1% to dial in our tone to perfection and the Hellion absolutely has the ability to do so. Only reason I didn’t hang onto mine is once I had it dialed in to perfection, I profiled it with my Kemper. Haha

The Hellion does sound great in clips. I guess I'll be wondering about Wizards until I try one though at this point

I guess I'll be a voice of dissension. I had a brand new Hellion V2 with KT66's and also own a MTL2 KT150. I did not gel with the Hellion. Despite its tweakability, the inherent voice just didn't do it for me. I also don't like the super modern djent stuff, which maybe it excels at. For me, the overall character was too sterile. I tried it with EL34s, thinking it would add more mid grind to it but I ended up liking it even less. Tried it with all 5 of my cabs and eventually just moved it on. It's not a bad amp, it just wasn't the end all, be all amp that you might glean from the endless praise. Kind of like the DV-77 speakers, which I still don't get. Maybe I'm just getting old...

I will reserve judgement til i play one, but for some of us, there is a sweet spot in between the classics and the modern amps, that some builders are hitting quite well while delivering on punch and voicing.

That balance is where I want to live

And despite achieving it, the GAS will live on lol.

No, it’s just personal taste that sounds like it would be similar to mine based on those descriptions. In general I don’t like KT66’s as much either
