He went from a 200 watt custom JCM-800, to Wizards to a Kemper ......
Yep, and while those Sneap-produced last couple of albums sure have a good punchy guitar sound and he matches that live with the Kemper, it still missing that awesome kerrang from his early days...
I actually had Restless and Wild on in my car today on the way to work. Playing "Fast as a Shark" in rush hour kinda gets aggrevating for your right foot tho'... :cautious:😅

Let's hear what those Kempers sound like in 2023.......................

Here's amps from 2005 which do you prefer?

This is all i heard LOL.

i bought a kemper because i saw them live and he had it in his rack. i had no idea wtf it was, so i looked it up when i got home. I've owned 3 since. i think they sound great, but i always came back to tube. wolfs tone in the 80's had a huge influence on what i shoot for.

@harddriver I vastly prefer the 2005 clip. Way more 'alive', body, girth in the tone.
The 2023 tone sounds like a 5150 III with a TS boost, creating those kinda clanky, plasticky mids. It's clear and tight for sure, but where's the body?

Oh, and I really want a H-S Flying V now. 😅 🤘

I actually thought the Kemper sounded really good....but then I came across that 2005 clip and the difference was very clear to my ears and that surprised me because we always hear that the audience would never know the difference and that it is more of a guitar player experience difference and everything is just the same audibly.........:dunno:

I also liked the 2005 actual amp live tone better, it clanked , it had that Marshall Kerrrang to it, the amp also seemed to breathe and be more dynamic with actual depth. Did you notice the percussiveness on the muted strings being struck actually translated well in the PA audio live whereas the Kemper it just doesn't seem to be there....that really surprised me as well.

I tried to find YT clips that had pro audio recordings so the playing field was even.

the 2005 clip is a much better sounding overall recording so I can't really differentiate accurately

What sort of mods did his 200 Watt custom Marshall have besides the 200 watt transformers?

Were there preamp gain mods or was it basically a 200 watt JCM800?

How's this from 2017 Wacken, I believe this is still a Kemper and it still is missing what I hear in the 2005 clip.
