Would you Re-fret a new guitar you love?

The bottom is what I have on this guitar and the top is what I like on my main axe. But I need to caliper it as this is just based on what Gibson says my guitars are. I thought my Vivian had Jumbos, or something like 57110, but the 47104 is more Medium Jumbo. But that's what Gibson says.

Man I wanted one of those Vivian Campbell LP’s so bad. It has to be one my favorite unique finishes I’ve seen on an LP.

Same here. It's like a transparent silverburst. It's the bomb man. Sounds so good to with the Super Distortion. Unlike Adam Jones models they didn't skyrocket. But still Custom shop prices so not cheap. But well worth $5-6k used when one pops up used.

what do you mean by 17?
above the 17th fret or there about, maybe 15. I have some form of jumbos on my custom that measure about 0.11” wide which can get hard to play as they take up more of the fretboard compared to my studio which are 0.09” wide. Just something to consider.

gotcha, thought you meant some measuerment of 17. Now I understand.

I in Raleigh where are you? There are cheaper places, but one that is a very well know guy charges more.
I am assuming you are talking about Mark Kane, I would also recommend his work. When I sent off a piece of lumber to a well known place in the northwest for a custom neck and then sent me back a complete mess he was able to save it for me.

So before any leveling there is .008 difference….gonna say both have had one level, taking off .008 they should be close to same height. Width is .014 difference but at the bottom. Think of that difference as guitar string sizes…a high e from a set of 8’s.
Also measure the fretboard radius, neck dimensions etc. might be more different than only the fretwire. The bottom fret looks like a dunlop 6105.

Yeah I think these are pretty similar to 6105 from what I read. The issue is not the height but howo abrupt or smooth it rolls up. The higher height and the narrower width together take it from a smooth half moon speedbump to an n-shaped more square bump...if that makes sense.

That's what I feel when I play it. Its just a much rougher passover with the Narrow/Talls.

Real talk, if I had to refret a new guitar I wouldn’t love it.

If it was something I’d loved and played for several years that’d be a different story.

Sell it and find something that suits you.

I'm in N.C what place quoted you that price ? I went to a true master and he gets it done within days and he gets 100% 5 star reviews . Cheaper also.
I'm in NWA\Southern Missouri area, just had a refret and plek for <$400

yes, as long as it's a keeper and not a trader\investment piece and\or not a vintage piece that could possibly be devalued.

Hell, if I had a vintage piece that was in my regular live rotation, i'd refret it too.

I've done it a couple of times. It's an easy thing to change if you love everything else about the guitar.

Thing I like about the VC model is no back binding. On my Customs that is the one thing I wish I could remove. Especially considering my number one guitar is a Standard so making that switch to the hard edge you have to get used to.

Yep. Mark does great work. Never done a refret with him, but he comes highly recommended by others and has done nice stuff on more basic things for me.

I'd check with a Plek guy before a full re-fret.
Grind down .008 from the height and then have them re-crowned.
Much less intrusive to the guitar.
Called a pleker and they said it probably wouldnt fix it enough for what I want. I may just be wasting money. Just refret.

What's the big deal? Just get the refret done and play the fuck outta the guitar.

All my new guitars will get refretted within the month cos' I love stainless steel 55090 Jescar. I love my guitars more when they get my fave frets in them.
