MURDERATOR
Any idea what is going on? I ordered a new pcv valve and I’m hoping I get lucky and that’s the issue. It is meeting the symptoms of a bad one. Anyway it’s puffing and using oil. There’s actually oil residue on the back of the car. Muffler looks like it came off my old 6.0 power stroke. This thing has been heavily modified. Tons of aftermarket upgrades. The coolant levels are fine so not a head gasket problem. No knocking or ticking. Runs super strong. But the smoking is very worrisome. Any suggestions. I checked the catch can and found a couple small things but I’m at a loss. The only code it’s throwing is a p0108. I will post a coupl IMG_3222.jpegIMG_3224.jpeg

e pics of a few things. I’m not a mechanic or much of a guitar player either so any advice is appreciated!IMG_3223.jpeg

Damn I hacked up that thread. I was trying to show all the oil residue on the bottom of the catch can and all those lines. Found a disconnected line that runs to the catch can that was blowing oil.

So that was it?

Was gonna suggest maybe valve-stem seals.

No idea bro. That’s why I posted this. I’m hoping it’s the pvc valve but I won’t know until I swap it out. If it’s not the pvc valve then could be the turbo seal…if not that then probably rings. Rings is the worst case scenario. Probably not the turbo seal because it’s a newer upgraded turbo. It would help if it it throw a code but all I have is symptoms.

Clean it up so you can see where it's leaking maybe?

Ordered a cheap map sensor but at this point I’m convinced that it’s rings. I’ll see what happens when I swap the pcv valve but in the meantime I’m going to drop a bottle of rislone in there to see what happens.

If it's the rings the compression should drop right?

If you've the means to test that...

Dunno mate. Sounds like someone's shoved a banana into the tailpipe.

Oh hang on... that'd be Steve's dick. Mah bad.

Went to install the new pcv valve and couldn’t find the old one. There’s no pcv valve anywhere. I assume because it has had a catch can installed there’s no pcv valve. Looks like I’m taking a trip to ringland. Going to order a compression tester and go from there.

Turbo needs rebuilt for sho…. Big aftermarket one… one section of it uses garbage Chinese parts. Guess what section is failing? Yup that section. Compression check yielded 135 on three cylinders and 115 on another. Wrx’s usually run 150-155 on compression for each cylinder. Going to do the turbo and then go from there for now.

Yikes; sounds like you're in for a bit o' work bro'.

Good luck Brother Stoivo. :cheers2:

Alongside that compression tester, also buy a leakdown tester. That'll give you really good results and is better than a compression test in my opinion.

Repaired but at great cost. Turbo needed rebuilt and a header was cracked. Plus a good bit of the plumbing was routed incorrectly. Especially around the catch can. Dude got me. With what it cost me I would have left to blow smoke until it blew up and then swapped motors. Oh well…lesson learned.
