Hey guys. I know there are quite a few shooters here so I figured I'd run this one up the flagpole. FIRST- I did run this one by a mod before posting and he said it was cool since I'm looking for guitar gear. SECOND- any deal would be done 100% legally through an FFL.

I've been playing guitar a lot more & shooting a lot less the last couple years so I have some rigs I've been thinking about moving to make space for more gear. A couple years ago I built my dream precision rifle, put exactly 50 rounds down the tube in 2 sessions, cleaned it, put it in the safe, and haven't touched it since. It's shot a group in the 2s and more regularly in the 4s, and the barrel isn't even broken in yet. It tagged the steel plate at 1000 yds. with ease.

Here's the setup:
- Savage factory blueprinted large shank action
- Savage target Accutrigger. The trigger goes down to ounces, and I have it set at about 1.5lbs.
- HS Precision aluminum bedded stock, skim bedded to action
- Shilen 243 Win stainless match heavy barrel, 1:8 twist, 22"
- Warne 20 moa rail
- 5 & 10 rd factory mags
- Blackhawk stock pouch

What gear am I looking for? Well, I'm in the "let's try new things" phase. I've been doing Mesa & ESP for years and I'm always interested in that stuff. Branching out I'd like to try other guitars & high gain amps. What do ya got!?! That said, I wouldn't be opposed to trying a nice USA SSS Strat just because I don't have anything like that around.

I'd put the trade value for the rifle & things that attach to it at $1200, and all that plus a full reloading compliment at as much as $1600 depending on how much of it you want- I have quite a bit. Just like with my guitar gear, I keep my other gear in excellent condition as well. I'm also open to trade + cash if the deal is interesting.

Anyway I know this is a bit unorthodox, and if any guys are moving in the opposite direction to me "shoot" me a PM for pics & more info! Thanks..

I’ll trade you my Red Ryder for a Gorilla if you’ve got one laying around.

I like a .243, it’s what I grew up on. Probably shot at least a hundred deer with one. Curious why you decided to do a .243 build…intermediate range?

A few reasons, actually. I've gone through even more rifles than I have Mesas, and have learned a lot. I wanted to build a 6mm long range precision rig of some sort. To sum it up- this choice was faster, more reliable, every bit as accurate if not more, and cheaper.

I like 6.5 a lot, but it's getting just enough recoil that I can't always spot my hits through the scope. I spent a lot of time researching the new cool kids calibers and while I do concede that things like the 6mm Creedmoor etc. do have a slightly more efficient burn do to the shoulder angle, at the end of the day the 243 has more velocity & feeds more reliably. So, I had Shilen make me a custom fast twist barrel (1:8) so I could properly stabilize the ~105gr bullets I intended to use and I also sourced small primer match brass that has a more consistent burn. I bought 100 of them, shot 50 once & the other 50 are still brand new. My goal with the build was to cover 100-1200 yds. with ease and the goal was achieved.

Some are concerned about seating depth with the 243 so I checked my magazines before embarking and with the 105s, seating .015" off the lands would be no problem. Also, I already had all the headspace gauges, dies and other tools for the whole 308 family so it was less new hear I'd have to buy. Because the 243 is faster and I had speed to spare, I also went with the 22" barrel because it's proven by the old benchrest guys that (really 21.75") is the most accurate barrel length.

I also have a bunch of 243 hunting bullets & random brass from a hunting 243 I had years ago, I put it in the photo in case a guy wanted to dual duty the thing.

excellent answer brother. you have done your homework for sho....this guy is legit folks....and his character is above reproach. If I had anything you were interested in I would trade in a second.

Thanks man. Oh I almost forgot, this was the 3rd group she ever sent. 38.5gr H4350 with CCI BR in the Peterson brass pushing the 105gr BMB. I didn't have my chrony set up at the time, but subsequently when I did the ES was in the 7-11 FPS range for multiple groups. Ultimately that's more important to long range precision than the FPS is so that your drop is consistent.

nice. what was the range? I was getting similar groups out of my 6mm PPC back in the day. my eyes are gone now so all I do is occasional tactical shit with the popo, or just fuck around at the range with my boys.

That one was 100yds, I was tracking the scope in. This build is on par with the groups that I used to shoot with my Sako 6mm PPC back in the day, which it sounds like you know what's up with PPC. I have a hand lathe that I used to uniform the necks to within a thou on that one after fire forming the brass out of Lapua 220 Russian!

I had no idea what I was getting into when I got mine. Luckily I was working for Ruger at the time and had an unlimited supply of once fired Lapua brass....It was my first employee gun...km77VT....I actually did the finish work on it...lol...in the factory...

I'll be honest...I have seen some crazy things those hi points have endured and they keep running. damn they are hideous though.

I really love 6mm creedmoor for the record. Honestly a lot of fun to shoot and very easy in the recoil department. Different application but I would love to try a 6 arc.

I'm sure the 6CM is fantastic, just like its bigger brother. When I was younger I chased the allure of all the hot new cartridges (amp / pedal of the month anyone??) and the more I learned, the more I was happy with really good versions of the old faithfuls.

Firearms and guitar reallt have a lot of overlap. You are totally right people chase the new cartridge, platform, etc. These days I have the pillar cartridges (223/556, 308/762, 9mm, etc) and fuck around with stuff like 300 norma etc for when I want to annihilate my shoulder.
