I can pick one up for cheap but can't play it before I buy it. Why do you guys think of it? It's suppose to be like a SLO but way cheaper. It would be a practice amp and back up to a Diezel Einstein.

It might a good backup and practice amp. I have played several of those amps and played SLO's. It may be Soldano designed, but I would never confuse it and an SLO tone-wise.

100% my experience, as well.

I remember playing them when they first came out, and scratching my head; I was hoping for SLO tone, on the cheap, but no such luck.

That's the combo listed locally, right? A little high priced IMO.

I had one. I liked the 50-watt head better. Good rock amp, but it is NO Soldano SLO. Closer to an HR50. I liked both mine quite a bit.

played one. Thin, gritty, no low end. Buy one if you want.

+1

I had one for a minute...NOT a Soldano . Even Mike Soldano said he didn't like what the bean counters at Yamaha did to "his" amp.

I've liked them since they first came out. They definitely aren't an SLO though and I bet they'd be more popular if the association was never made and they were allowed to exist on their own merits.

I owned a T-50 that Mike modded. He basically did everything to the amp that he wanted Yamaha to do and then some. It was a fantastic amp but it wasn't an SLO. It was better than my friends HR 50 but not quite an SLO. I think Mike will still do the work or he will send you the stuff to mod one yourself.

That's really cool if Mike will send you the parts and directions to mod those amps...will he do that for the HR and Jet City stuff too ?

Not sure if he sends directions. My buddy owns a shop and he's the guy that bought my amp. He bought two T-100's and Mike sent him parts to do the mods like on my T-50 that he originally modded. I'll also add that Mike is kinda tricky to get in contact with.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing most of you are saying. I wasn't really calling it a SLO I just wanted to know if anyone thought it was even close to one. And yes Chris locally as in MN ( :poke: are you also bidding and that's why you say it's crap   ). I've also had a HR50 which I don't know if it was an older model or what but mine sounded like a big can of buzz. I think I'll pass if it's in the same vien as a HR50 (My least favorite amp I've ever owned). I'll stick with my Boogie MKIII as my back up/practice amp for now. Thought about the modded Jet city too. Leaning more that way. I like the idea of a light weight tone monster as a back up. The Boogie is a sight pain to lug around as a back up. I guess the T100 would be too, it just looked intersting. But if Mike says it's crap I'll trust his word and everyone elses and pass.

Thank you all for talking me out of it.

I've heard that the T100/T50 is a good amp, but doesn't have that "Soldano tone" that most of us hope that it has.

Honestly, IMO you should spend that same money on a Jet City JCA100H/JCA50H, and that would be your cheap Soldano tone for sure. I've read a few accounts of guys who have owned Soldano HRs and Jet City amps and say the Jet City stuff really is in the same ballpark. Mike himself says its the equivalent of the HR+ (just a mass-produced, Chinese made version). I've owned my Jet City for over 2 years now and I love it.

I think you should give the HR another try - I don't think I've heard of anyone referring to that amp as a bug can of buzz (that's usually reserved for the 5150s lol); maybe it just needed a re-tube. I recently jammed on a beat up Soldano Avenger and thought the same thing, but the amp was seriously in need of a tune-up so I couldn't give it a fair opinion.

Here's a good reference to how the Jet City sounds:

But in the end, I don't think Mike Soldano would have made a poor sounding amp when he designed the T100, so if the price is right give it a shot. I was chasing them for YEARS on eBay until I landed a JCA100H.

If that's fastredponycar it's not fair, everything that guys posts sounds killer.

I agree. However, I get my JCA100H to sound like that, so it's not a myth! :D
