Here's my latest song I wrote tonight.

The rhythms are all EG5. I finally decided on a speaker to record w/ my Grendel Dead Room. I picked the Celestion G12T75's as those just give me the growl I am looking for my style. I used 2 SM57 mic's on the speaker, one off axis, and one on axis fully in phase. I have one hotter in the mix than the others. All "lead" parts are the SL2 w/ delay from the Lexicon MPXG2. Power amp is still VHT 2/90/2 w/ 6550s.

Enjoy!!!

Growls the word of the day!! Good vibe Eric!! I diggin it!! :boxer:

Nice one Eric

I love the rhythm tone, and the wah track is really cool too.

I got an update from Alex @ Grendel and he is anticipating a mid-July ship for my Dead Room...can't wait. I ordered mine with the Veteran 30, mainly because I have a Black Shadow V30 in my Boogie Recto cab, but I am thinking about trying a couple of different one in there after I get it. The G12T75 sounds really good with the high gain sounds. Have you tried it out with cleans/crunches yet?

I've been using G12T75's forever, and they just fit my style a lot. I use a Ear Candy Green Machine in my Egnater 1x12. The G12T75 sounds great w/ all tones that I use. I really like it w/ the DLX, COD, and VX too :). I use them w/ my oversized Marshall 4x12, and it sounds awesome :).

The 2-mic setup w/ 2 SM57's really works for that cab. The E906 was just tooooo midrangey for the Grendel cabs for what I was looking for. A 57 on axis and off axis provided me the best tone w/ the Grendel. I tried about 5-6 mics in all sorts of combinations...and this recording was what i wanting as a guitarist :).

Thanks Wade for the compliments :).

  Me and the wife think it some good stuff!!!!I forsee a CD soon :D

that's the plan :) i've been working on about 15-20 songs...need to polish them up....and get them all ready for vox.

i might take a shot at doing vox myself...or look to find someone to come in and record vox on it....nothing has been decided yet :).

Love the Dime Crybaby from Hell. The best sounding, most versatile Wah I've ever owned...

Hey Eric,

Don't forget to post this in the clip collective!

I think the tones are great. The EG5 sounds mean and cutting! I love how you have it set up. Bass could come up a little in the mix to make the guitars feel thicker still IMO without turning into a low end sludge-fest since you have recorded stuff really tightly and the programed drums are at consistent levels. That wah sounds really musical and works great. Is it cocked for the neo-classical melodic figure on one of the harm gtrs? I look forward to checking out the new EB wah.

Good work,

John

Will do man. Thanks for the heads up to remember to do that :). I do love my EG5. It's the best tone I've ever had :). On the Wah section, I double tracked a non-wah sound, and added the wah sound on top of it, so it would not be thinned out. I do agree about the bass coming up, its a bit low in the mix...just needs to be up a bit. I don't have the wah cocked on the harm gtrs that I know of :), unless it was by accident :). I love the Dime Crybaby...it's awesome.

Wow great job on the micing and the mix, this clip sounds awesome! The previous ones you posted sounded like you had a "blanket" over the speakers but this one doesn't have it anymore.

Eric - have you tried any condensers or ribbons with the Dead Room? Of course it would have to be a high SPL one, but just curious if you tried it. Is there even enough room inside their to put a condenser/ribbon, as you would want a good 6 inches prolly back from the cone.

It was the speaker that made the biggest difference. That's the difference between a V30 and G12T75 for me :). That and using 2 57's instead of a 57 and Sennheiser e906 and a 57. 57 is just a plain amazing microphone for guitar!!!!

only issue with a good ribbon, is that they are in essence a figure 8 mic, so what makes them so great is that they can pick up some of the room, probally not the best for a small enclosed space, at least I would think.

i tried a condenser in there...and it farted like mad because of the compression in the dead room. i'd be very afraid to put a ribbon that close to the speaker in the dead room. i'd stick to dynamic mics.... i agree w/ audioholic...ribbons are best to pic up room ambiance. but that's me

plus i could never get the E906 and the 57 perfectly in phase w/ each other....so it was cancelling some frequencies out...which is why i moved to 2-57s...since i could easily mic 2-57's in the grendel dead room and get them in phase w/ each other.
