The guy lives in Japan, where ESP is known as a custom builder, not the ESP we know in the US with standard series, and LTD and all that. The dude (Shinji) personally knows many of the ESP luthiers, picks out his own woods for his guitars and oversees the build process.
I'd say he gets what he pays for, and it's 100% as good as anything we in the US deem a great guitar (i.e. Suhr, Anderson, etc.).
The guys he has build his guitars are the cream of the crop for ESP, and I'd wager Japan in general and are every bit even with their top line US peers.
Also, to have an Anderson made here and shipped there, or an ESP made there and shipped here seems like it'd be pretty even.
