Hello Diezel'ers...

Here's a thread I thought would be fun. Let me/us know what cabinets you're using, what they're loaded with, front versus rear, the wattage, and what they sound like. In keeping true to the forum, let's keep it to Diezel cabinets overall. Here are some primer questions...

I know G12K-100's are the new choice for the front loaded cabs, has anyone tried these speakers in a rear loaded configuration?

Hempcones - mostly rear loaded, anyone try 'em up front?

V30's - the defacto choice for many... Got 'em loaded front? Rear?

So in going through this, if you can state what you think the strengths are, what sort of music you play and at what volume levels (hey, we're all dimers for sure... ) and what your experience with different set ups has been, that'd be cool to see. I'm wondering what kind of trends and patterns are seen with the different options available

My experience has been the following:

Front loaded cabinets seem to spread better throughout the room, but sound too damn cutting in front of the speaker. Thus, if your rig gets miked or this is a recording setup, I'd suggest a rear loaded cabinet over a front loaded. Just my preference. I play pretty much anything you can think of, other than death metal. I like EVM12Ls & V30s, by themselves or mixed. Very often I play through a 1x12 with an EVM12L & I don't find myself wishing for a bigger cabinet. That said there are types of tones that call for a 2x12 or a 4x12.

My experience with gear is the following:

You can read 1000 reviews & listen to 1000 sound clips &, although they help a lot when it comes to choosing something completely wrong, you'll never know until you try yourself.

I like raspberry Arizona tea with ice. Who gives a shit?

All a matter of taste, but...

I've been to just about every guitar store in the Netherlands and tried a lot of cabs. There is a huge difference between the cheaper cabs and the more expensive cabs. In my experience, once you try great cabs form different manufacturers, it's all in the details. They all sound great, just different.

My ideal setup is a Diezel (any Diezel :)) through a Bogner cab, preferably rear-loaded with V30's. I play mostly rock music; no metal. I own a Bogner 212 (Bigger Size; 1/3 open back) and a 412. If I had to choose, I'd go with the 212. They both sound "big", but it seems I can hear the 212 all over the stage, while my 412 can only be heard when I'm "in the line of fire". :D

you'll never know until you try yourself.

This is probably the only way. Everyone has a set of different ears and sounds that they find pleasing. I have the Diezel Eminence speakers in my FL 2x12 cab. While I like them, I find myself wanting something a bit more......I'm looking at swapping in the Eminence Lynch Super V12s in their place. I currently have 1 that I'm putting in my ISO cab (when it arrives) and I'll go from there. Experimentation is the whole fun part of the process.

:)

:2thumbsup: Well I totally get where you're coming from with the experimentation headspace, but hey, experimentation costs kaching - so I'd like to get it right or semi-right on the first go round.

Here's a question:
DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH REAR LOADED G12K-100's...?? This is the major question I would like feedback on.

Yep, I had (sold few months ago to get a Diezel 4x12") a rear-loaded Framus 2x12" cabinet in which I changed one of the V30 for a G12K-100. Worked very well for my purposes which are recording, not performing live. But straight out in the room the sound improved, although some phase differences occurred (was expected, though). G12K is tighter and faster and complemented the V30 very nicely. Definition improved, chugga chugga 5-th chords too. I needed a versatile combination to cover a lot of ground from nice clean (jazz to rock ballad), through good overdriven sounds (where I mic'ed the V30 with some distant miking) to high gain madness (most of time).

I don't know how G12K is going to work in a rear-loaded Diezel cabinet. According to Terry (aka as Duolos here), and Peter S. - not extremely well. I was initially going for a V30 and G12K combo for the Diezel cab, however, changed the G12K to a Hempcones. Works great.

I have a Mesa Stiletto cab which came stock with rear loaded V30's. I changed them out a few months ago with G12K-100's, and wow, what a difference. Gone was the harsh upper-mid spike and in its place was a full, even frequency spread (to my ears at least) and great bass/lower-mids punch. Nice and tight for chunky rhythms, even and cutting - without harshness - for lead runs. Really a great choice for this particular cab.

Now, having said that, I picked up a Bogner 412 4 days ago (no Diezels to be found) and it has rear-loaded V30's. Astonishingly tight and full cab with an overall fantastic sound. Surprised me how good it was/is compared to my Mesa. It delivers almost the same type of sound overall without the V30 spike.

:salute: THANK YOU Studiojig & Synchu...

That's exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for (and continue to look for)... I spoke with Duolos/Terry about the swapping out of my current G12H Anniversary Edition 30 watters, to G12K-100's - the amp's pumping close to 180W and the speakers in unison are only rated to 120W which starts to show at about 40% volume (or thereabouts). The cab is an older ('04) stereo 4x12 but I love it - and simply wanted to swap out the speakers for something a bit higher rated, but still wanting it to sound choice :student: He's not a fan of the V30's although it seems they're the go-to speaker for most cabinets worldwide. The V30 spike I can do without, and Hempcones I understand don't express well in a super high gain, high volume climate. So hence the checking out G12K-100's.

Musically, I play at all volume levels, studio work, jammin', etc. I play a lot of stuff - SRV, Hendrix, G'n'R, Tool, SOAD, etc. so it needs to have spectrum... I know, I know, "experiment" - but hey, cones cost cash - and throughout it all, I oughta get a different cab, but it's always about the kaching, know what I mean? I love the sound of the G12H-30's in there right now, but they crack up before 1/2 way and I don't wanna blow 'em. Miking is awesome - they're ultra rich, vintage, and flutey...and with the switch of a channel, they get dark, weird and sick on the gain-train.

Blabbering - apologies :jerkit:

well im playing an "old" diezel rearloaded cab with 4xG12K100 trought a diezel herbert. im cover-musician to get some pocketmoney and play metalcore in another band. never had any problems and I've always been statisfied.

The G12K100 will be more appealing in a softer, rounder rear loaded cab. IMO, it will liven it up and make it nice. It all depends on your desired effect and especially on what cabinet you are using. As said before, I am not a huge fan of the G12K100 in the NEW Diezel rear loaded cabs.

:rawk: I AM IN...!!!

We'll soon see what these G12K's sound like being powered by a new VH4S. I am stoked. COME ON MENNINBROWN!!!! (aka "UPS Delivery Guy")

Namaste,
V. :D

Try not to drool too much before he arrives or you might scare him off.

Funny you should say that, my UPS guy is a bit :gay: and proud of it... He's awesome though and always knows that when a delivery comes my way - it's big, it's heavy, and it has to do with "music".

Of all the cats out there, I would never want this particular "man-in-brown" (whoa, I could run with this one, ahem) to see me drooling... :hys:

PS - NOW what's the deal with these speakers, are we using the ones made in Ipswich England or the Chinese varient made by "Celestion International Inc"...?!?!?!?!?!?!? I see some G12K's made in England, some in China - not cool.

Hello Everybody, please allow me to accompany this discussion.

I have tried the G12K100 in our rearloaded birch construction. I liked it a lot when I played it in the factory. I took it on stage and played with the band.
It sounded like a "post production" guitar tone, it did not really cut through and I could not hear the details of the chords.
It was not really supporting the dynamics when I played lead sounds. In my opinion it is too balanced.
My FOH guy had a similar impression about the speaker. We tried E609, MD421 and SM58 / 57´s.
Yet I haven´t tried them in any studio environment. I think a cabinet should work in both worlds, studio and band context!

The ceramic hemp is my favorite speaker in combination with the birch construction (please keep in mind that it´s just my humble opinion).
I had to use the MID CUT (about 15%) for my Les Paul, all my Teles and Strats interact really well!
I had this cabinet displayed backstage in Donington at the Download festival. Jim Roots liked it a lot (with C-sharp tuning!) because of it´s "honk".
Jeff from Devil Driver liked it a lot as well.
I already sold some hemp cabinets to 7 and 8 string users. We are talking about high gain now!!!!!
Nobody (neither me) would expect this, as the Hemp is supposed to be a "vintage" speaker.

The ceramic hemp is definitely NOT working in combination with our front loaded construction.

I agree, everybody should hear and play a cabinet before buying one. I hope we´ll have the chance to get more cabinets into the stores soon.
I found out that one can not judge a speaker without the context of the enclosure. It´s always depending on the interaction with the cabinet and (!!!) the player.
The speakers may work totally different in cabinets of other brands. My description is based on Diezel cabinets only (+ I played Diezel amps) and not ment to be a general "rule" - because there is no rule!!!!!(Except of Heavy Metal  ) Other users may not agree and this is fine! There is still the V30.

Well said Peter. The only rule is there are no rules. Each person likes what they like and has specific needs. We share our experiences here and hope that it saves you some time, money and cuts out the repeating of lessons already learned and mistakes made to simply help. Enjoy!

hey Peter nice to read you brother. :)

I want a hempcone cab!

do you guys sell a 1x12 hempcone cab?

not yet. I am starting research on the chapter "isolation cabinet". There are increasing inquiries and I have ideas that I need to try!
We tried the hemp cone in the new Einstein Combo enclosure and it worked well.
To be continued
