I went to Reb Beach's house and got to jam with him for about 2 hours. He let me play through his Suhr modded Marshall and also play the original blue Kramer that he used in the Seventeen video. I ended up buying one of his armor plated Mesa Recto cabs that I still have to this day. I had him show me some of his tapping ideas and he had me show him some sweep picking stuff. He is an extremely cool guy, a helluva player and very down to earth. He also told me some very cool Winger stories but I'll keep those to myself. :D

Did those Suhr Marshalls sound as good in they appear to on the live stuff that's lurking around? When we played withthem he had JUST switched to Od-100 so I didnt get to hear them.

It sounded very good but I was not blown away. Keep in mind that he lived in a townhouse and his "studio" was really just the garage. We were not able to crank the amps at all.

I've met quite a few pro musicians, actors, actresses's but there was one
I really wanted to meet and it took me 5yrs.
Louise Post of Veruca Salt.
I wrote her manytimes but no reply back........

When I first went on myspace I was searching through music,
and I saw Veruca Salt on this page.
So, instead of writing her again i just sent an add request,
and left a comment like "I've been a huge fan for years".

She read my comment, and went to my page.
Here's what she wrote:

Oh my God! So I was sitting here listening to you guys, taking in the lovely rock, and I realized that YOU are DOUG ROCCAFORTE!!! So funny, cause I was thinking about you (and your amps--haha) yesterday, as we are heading into the studio in two weeks, and I was thinking...wow, I should try to contact him! I've always wanted to come out and meet you, but never gotten my shit together enough to make contact! Anyway, so thanks for saying hi, (and for the sweet message) and I hope to speak to you soon.
Rock on, you guys sound great. :)

So, I ended up building her an amp, hungout with the band while they were recording VS4, went to their gigs. We've been friends ever since.

I've allways dug her style, sound and music. She's the only artist that made me giddy meeting her in person. Everybody else is just another one of guys!
LOL

I'm good friends with Emil Werstler from Daath. Don't really know if that counts or not, but he's a cool guy and an incredible guitarist.

I kinda feel like a retard cuzI don't have a clue who half of these people are that you all are speaking of. Guess I've got a lot of research to do!

Anyway, a couple of years ago I was working on the local crew for a Godsmack concert. We were unloading backline from the trucks and rolling them up the ramp onto the stage. For some weird reason that I still don't know, Sully was hanging out in the loading dock area talking to some crew members. One of Tony's cab cases came off the truck and I was going to roll it up the ram onto the stage with this other guy. Mind you, there were two 4X12 cabs in this case, so it was pretty damn heavy. We needed to really get some momentum to get up the 5 foot high ramp. Just as we got up to speed, Sully backed into our path and had to jump out the way at the last second. Freaked me and this other guy out!! Sully was cool about it cuz he did walk into our path, but I ALMOST KILLED SULLY!! I'll never forget that.

I met Lane Staley at clash of the titans years ago at the starlight in PA. Of course I was fucked up at the time. I looked at him and said"Hey! Your the singer for alice in chains! YOU GUYS FUCKIN RAWK DUDE!!" and I threw up the devil horns. :rawk: He smiled and said "YEA!!"
Years later I met Trey Azagoth. Of course-I was fucked up again. I remeber him being kinda small and skittish. I told him he looked like he was turning into a goat on one of his videos. Then I asked him something about if he was serious with all that thanking the ancient ones bullshit on the inner sleeve of one of their cd's. He gave me a funny look and chuckled and took off.

I used to take guitar lessons from the same guy as Billy Joe from Green Day. Was on an airplane once with Miles Davis, I was too chicken to talk to him. Jammed with Perry Strickland from Vio-lence and Steve Souza from Exodus. Did bit of serious drinking with Jeff Baccerra from Possessed.

Ran into Tom Morrello in Subway. Yeah the sandwich shop. We talked while we were on line. He was real cool. I ran in Zach the singer all the time but never talked to him.

Worst was Courtney Love. I was working on one of her videos. She wanted to smoke in the edit suite, and threw a fit when I told her no.

Weirdest was Janet Jackson. We had to shut the whole place down for her. We were told not to make eye contact with her. O.k.

Then I worked with Ben Stiller and the no eye contact thing came up again. He's a fucking dick.

maybe the sign of "making it" is when you have people warning other people not to make eye contact with you. wtf? :jerkit:

They had to shut down Subway for Janet Jackson? What the hell is she doing in Subwya? Can't she have someone get her a sandwich? What the hell is she? The president? Fuching retarded.

Interviewed Malmsteen at NAMM this year. Nice guy....wife was hot too.

I've mentioned this before, Vinnie Moore used to be in a band with my brother. I went to a couple of their practice sessions and got to know Vinnie when he was very young...maybe 14. Every once in a while we run in to each other. I saw him about 5 months ago at a Best Buy. We were both looking for new DVDs to watch.

I'm a huge Steve Morse fan. I got a chance, with a bunch of my friends from work, to see Steve Morse in a small club in PA. During the show Steve introduces a friend...Vinnie Moore. Vinnie Moore comes out on stage, looks around at the crowd and spots me. He looks dead at me with a smile on his face and points a finger at me and yells "yo Al." It was a pretty cool moment, especially since my friends from work were there...they all turned and looked at me in surprise...very cool. :D

These are some cool stories i guess... my first:
Going to see Journey (way back in the day...Rollie was in the band then)...me and my buddy were hanging out at the Venue like everybody did back in those days of general admission. While walking around we heard the guys doing an early soundcheck...found and open door, snuck in and proceeded to watch them run through some things. Security saw us but the band told them to leave us alone...so we watched them soundcheck. Actually went back to the board and watched with the engineer who happened to be Kevin Elson.

2nd: Saw Van Halen with my girlfriend (Diver Down tour)...she desperatley wanted to go back stage...I asked a roadie, told him her name was Jamie. Few minutes later we're talking with Dave himself...while he was throwing potatoes at various crew members, don't know why. His words to my girlfriend "is your name really Jamie"...funny thing it was. He signed our passes and wrote her a private note. He was really cool. And no he didn't try and hit on her.

3rd: Meeting Paul Stanley and a private meet and greet/dinner of about 75 people....took my 78 PS-10 for him to sign. I was maybe the 5th person in line...pulled out the guitar, handed it to him. He looked the guitar over for several minutes...a security guard told me to hurry up while Paul told the secruity guard to piss off. He then ask me if I want to sell it to him...i was dumfounded. After telling him it was a Christmas present he kindly flipped the guitar over and signed the back...then took the time to tell me how to preserve his signature with clear tape or clear coat. Never understood why he wanted to purchase it other than it was and is in immaculate condition and that maybe the majority of his originals had been trashed through the years.

Numerous: Seeing that I would eventually work for the local amphitheatre I've met a ton of people, seen a ton of rigs. Watched the Scorpions everyday on my lunch break sitting on the side of the stage for a week rehearsing for they're upcoming tour...that was incredible watching them argue in German at each other and then rehearse a song...wonderful rigs. Saw Ed's Peavey prototype guitars, and no, three tours of theirs came through there and I never saw anything hidden...only his 5150's. Watched George play with his gear during a dinner break...just jamming full blast in an empty arena. Watched the guys in Def Leppard play soccer for hours on end in dead southern heat and then ate dinner with Vivian. Went through catering so many times with artist it was ridiculous. Almost stepped on Michael Wilton of Queensryche...he's super tiny. Sold fireworks to Scott Ian. The best one was going through catering with Snake Sabo...Gene cuts line, server aks for his meal ticket and Sabo responds...he is the meal ticket. Of course Gene then tries to pick her up. And of course my favorite...watching Kiss soundcheck...the production manager was an old roadie for Kiss in the 70's, him and Gene get to chatting and spewing jewish slurs at each other and reminiscing the old times. I'm introduced to Gene and he remembers me from the guitar incident...the guys all jump in the limo, Simmons leans out and asks "you coming"...fun days for sure.

probably the coolest thing for me was:

i went to boston univerity. we used to always play pickup basketball games in the gym with the local city kids and other people. one night it was really slow. just a few people in the whole gym.

we ended up picking sides and this tall lanky guy was on our team. hadn't really noticed him before but now i realized it was TOM SCHOLZ. this was 1989 or 1990. i was a huge fan of the third stage album. after a few trips up and down the court i stopped the guy and asked, "I'm sorry...are you tom scholz?"

he says , "yeah, i think you're the only guy all night that even recognized me"...we had some small talk but had to get back to the game..he ende dup leaving before the game ended so i didn't have a chance to talk to him any further

I met Wally and the Beaver in a bar I was playing in. The Beaver was so drunk he couldn't sit up straight.

Meeting Motorhead and COC in Portland a few years back was cool. Some friends of mine were opening for the two and we got to hang out "under" stage. All the COC guys were very personable and Mickey Dee is definitely the people person of Motorhead. Lemmy stayed in a room to the side with the light low and two smokin' women on either side. I tried talking to Phil but I honestly think he was pretty high on a stimulant as it made no sense and he was definitely on the move. Lemmy gave me a nod and a wink as he headed for the stage.
Driving back to Seattle at 4am I fell asleep and my car went off the road. My buddy who was there to keep me awake had fallen asleep first lol. The whole right side was smashed in but the car still drove. We couldn't find a damn motel because they were all full from a state fair and regional dog show. Ended up driving the car 2 hours more back to Seattle as the sun came up, hands pressed against the heater as the wind was freezing us.

I was visiting a school friend at The Record Plant in L.A in the early 90's and saw Dio playing Pinball in the break room. He sure made the pinball look tall. Julio Iglesias was also there.

Nothing real big, im just the guitarist for a couple bands; van halen, goo goo dolls, megadeth, rush.. So I've met some pretty cool people along the way

Michael Angelo Batio and Reb Beach. Probably an equal tie. They are two cool motherfunkers to hang out with. Both very friendly, funny and great story tellers.
