Your favourite post-90's metal

I've tried to listen to modern stuff but nothing does it for me , a lot of 90's stuff I feel the same way about .

I'm a mid to late 70's and early 80's guy through and through .

Adding to some of those great ones above:
Not sure of your preferred sub styles though so I chose a variety of post 2000's.

Anthrax - Worship Music
Alice in Chains - Black gives way to Blue
Karnivool - Themata and Sound Awake
Pelican - Australiasia
Goatwhore - Carving out the Eyes of God
Carcass - Surgical Steel
QOTSA - Songs for the Deaf
Megadeth - Dystopia
Slash - Self Titled album
Testament - Brotherhood of the Snake
Ghost - Opus Eponymous
Skull Fist - Chasing the Dream
Plini - Handmade Cities
Bewitcher - Cursed be thy Kingdom

I'm surprised Evergrey only caught one mention in this thread! This is from their most recent album, but almost all of their discography is really, really good.

I don't see anyone ever mention them, so Soilwork. The Living Infinite, The Ride Majestic, Death Resonance. The performance and production on those albums is gold.

Just listened to that Heartless song for the first time. Pretty badass.

Man there is so much, I apologize but as I started listing a couple, there’s just so much.
Here are some cool ones I like and still listen to regularly. I’m assuming you’re at least familiar with some of the more “popular” bands like Opeth, Volbeat, Ghost, Children of Bodom, Nightwish, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenge Sevenfold, etc, if not then definitely check those out.

Demons and Wizards - Self titled whole album is awesome.

Axenstar - Far From Heaven, while album is good and catchy

Ghost Brigade - Until Fear No Longer Defines Us - love this band

Frozen Crown - pretty new stuff, all their albums are good

Dream Evil - Dragonslayer is a cool album, every song good. Gus G early days.

And continued:

Amorphis- Under The Red Cloud. But really check out all their albums, love them all.

Falconer - Chapters From A Vale and their Self Titled, both awesome albums

Eluveitie - Slania, but all their albums are great folk metal

Myrath - middle eastern band with some cool Arabian metal

All That Remains - The Order of Things, whole album is great

And lastly:
David Townsend - all of it’s good

Michael Romeo - War of the Worlds part 1, of course check out any Symphony X as well

Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance

Barren Earth - Curse of the Red River

Porcupine Tree - anything by them really, but Deadwing, In Absentia, and Fear of a Blank Planet are my favs.
Long song, maybe fast forward to about 1:40

this thread is sort of reminding me why i’ve largely lost interest in listening to metal.

I really like Mastodon, Opeth and Gojira still, and I check Alice In Chain’s stuff even though it’s a little bit hit and miss (or filler). Sometimes i’ll play the older Killswitch or Chimaira albums for nostalgia.

I watched Meshuggah live last year and it reminded me how there hasn’t been a band who flipped the entire genre in its head. I don’t think any band has really come close to doing something so revolutionary with metal and it still feels like everything else is sort of watered down by comparison. As much as I like Opeth and Mastodon, it’s more about meshing together older influences than really doing anything I’ve never heard before. I suppose Nine Inch Nails deserve credit in that regard, they haven’t fully clicked with me but their albums always sound INCREDIBLE and it’s way more creative and imaginative than most metal I’ve heard.

Might be worth listening to the massive bands at the moment - I can’t believe how massive Ghost are, doesn’t make sense to me but maybe it’s worth seeing what the fuss is about. Bring Me The Horizon have managed to constantly stay current and while I don’t think they make anything very original or groundbreaking, I really admire their work ethic and ability to be at the top of the pile. They’re one of those bands that just seems to do it better than the others.

I’m partial to wrought iron, although aluminum is a nice light weight option.

I can’t wait to hear new All that Remains with Jason Richardson on lead .

I enjoy ghost . Good old fun satanic rock for the fun. Fun 80s vibe . Almost party music. Though I liked the doom albums more from their beginnings

I love most of what’s been posted and I’ll add Northlane’s “Alien.” Killer album.

Last few days I’ve been working out to Jinjer, and my God, they are truly great. I mean holy shit! Get past “Pisces” and check out their albums. They are for real and mean business.

First time I saw Jinjer I was WTF, how are those vocals coming out of her? Cool shit.
