Your opinions: the Les Paul Vs the Superstrat

Superstrats are comfy but a good sounding LP or Singlecut style guitar kills a superstrat tone wise any day.

I think it's pretty clear in this Carl Roa video where his LP Classic just kills his Suhr modern for tone...IMHO.

The 24.75 scale kills it for me past the 12th fret on a Paul. Just too tight for my fingers. Besides, I grew up in the 80's and never lost my affinity for superstrats and particularily, Jackson/Charvels.

Tight meaning you think the frets are too close or the string tension? I'm guessing you think the frets are too close because string tension is less the shorter the scale length on any guitar.

Love me some superstrats, that's it.

I grabbed a PRS singlecut and while it had great tone, I just couldn't get the feel of it.
For me, the strats are ALWAYS better feeling guitars to play.
They sit just where they should and feel just how they should

No doubt there are guys that get GREAT sounds out of LP's.
I am just not one of them  plus I like the 24 frets and 25.5 scale.

So, I have a bunch of Suhr Moderns, a couple PRS Custom 24's and some other guitars, just no LP's.
I don't think my tone suffers from the Superstrats, not even a little

I hate LP's when sitting, just feel uncomfortable and mess with my posture....so super strat for sitting and I guess LP for standing depending on what sound i'm after......ultimately a V when standing

This is a tough call for me as I have both. To me, you cannot beat the versatility of s super strat configuration (hum 2 single in my case). Having said that, I have never had a super strat that would do the classic Les Paul thing. Two different beasts... the tonal palette differences warrant having both in the stable.

I have one badass les paul 58VOS and I love it...

But the fender strat, charvel super strat, or any top shelf bolt on neck 25.5 scale guitar with a strat body takes me to another place altogether...

As we speak, I am getting ready to sell my new PRS to buy a new charvel or usa schecter custom shop super strat because of the way they seem to just make me play...

Fender Stratocaster for me.

Love Les Pauls, but, the feel and versatility of a Stratocaster work for me.

Right now LP's any day of the week. It has been like this for me since early 2013. I guess the reason is I was a super strat guy since the mid 80's and could care less for LP's until I bought one out of the blue in 2012. I can make either work and still own all of my super strats.

here are the 3 getting 98% of my playing time. I want an R8 in tobacco next
BB7, R7 and Traditional +

So is the black beauty custom one of the limited edition reissues that were done back in the 70s? I had one of those once... nice axe!

Superstrat. All day long and twice on Sundays.

I've yet to find a Lester I can enjoy playing. Something about the neck angle and body size, I dunno. ES-335's I like, SG's are cool, but a Lester just feels fundamentally wrong to me.

I'll take a PRS over a Les Paul, please. Heresy!

I too really like the ES335's and SG's, great playing and sounding guitars.
The LP sounds great, love their tone, but I just can't meld with the feel.
It is kind of "odd" for my hands and fingers.
I really really wanted an LP so I bought one this past winter, a gorgeous Plus top in Desert Burst. Tone was fantastic, though a bit growly with certain eq settings.
The feel was just not to my liking, even though it had the 60's slim taper neck the playing position beyond the 12th fret was odd and of course access to the higher frets is much harder to get to than on a Strat style body, ES335, SG, and an ESP Eclipse.

I still love how they look and sound though, when someone else is playing them. :)

I have my Strat, and Schecter C1 Classic. The C1 is my mahogany + maple top HB guitar for more LP tones, and this baby does a fantastic LP type tone.
It's a neck through design and feels fantastic.
Strat neck is super nice and thinner, though the fret board is rounder than the C1. C1 has a wider neck especially on upper frets, but it also a flatter fret board making it a super nice fast player.
PRS necks are nice too, they feel more like a Strat, a bit narrower and slightly flatter fret board, very fast playing necks.

I know what you mean when you say how a certain guitar makes you play.
My Strat guides me into a different direction when playing it compared to how my C1 guides me to playing it.
When a guitar works with you and inspires better playing then it's a guitar that has that MOJO.

My Schecter C1 is not a custom shop, but man I lucked out on how great this baby sings and plays.
A US Schecter custom shop should be killer.
Looking forward to seeing and reading about your new custom Schecter, and hopefully you'll post a vid so we can hear it in action. :)

No, it's a real '56 that I had restored. All original, but someone had stripped the paint. It's pretty amazing sounding.

Let me know if you ever want to part with one of those killer superstrats!

Love both for different reasons, that's why I keep both around. Just got my first Suhr Modern and I can understand how someone could be happy with just that but I still love the grit and girth I get with my Stripped 58. Compound radius neck on the Suhr is amazing btw.

Les Paul for me, but then again I find a burlap g string very comfortable.

Who am I kidding? Super Strat!

I played Super strats for over 20 years, then got a Les Paul.

The Les Paul is much more difficult to hustle around the twisty turny road course, where as the Superstrat is very nimble and can can pull some high g's in and out of the tight turns.

But in the end for me, it is the roar of the more musclar V-8 sound of the Les Paul that wins, as I can still slop it around the race track good enough.
