Anybody else tried attenuating in serial loop?

I've been using my MXR EQ's gain to quiet down what comes out of the serial send & it works SO much better than rolling down channel volumes or the master. I mean it's still loud, but it knocks down a lot of volume quiet effectively.

WARNING!!!
BTW, if you dare to try this, remember units like MXR EQ go to automatic bypass if the unit stops receiving power for some reason. In this case bypassing will result in some super loud shit, which can be dangerous.

A pot with 50kohm or 47kohm linear taper works also ;)

I was just going to suggest a simple Volume pedal, which is pretty much the same as Papa suggested :), but (as always) he's first

I really wanna get my hands on a VH4 again & try this. Hopefully with this approach I can make it sound the way I envision it without tearing down walls.

I may have to try this on my Vh4. Interesting... I run a Glass Nexus in my serial loop, will this affect that unit?

I have one of those Ernie Ball 25K Ohm (made for ketboards, loops etc, not the 250k ohm that's made for guitar level input) volume pedals in my FX loop before my reverb and delays, works good. It ramps up pretty slowly so it's great for the swell with delay type of stuff.

no.

So I guess that could be a passive unit? Anyone knows a good, tried unit I could get for a good price?

Any good quality Volume pedal will do (plus added flexibility to use it on the floor :) and keeping your hands free for those burning riffs and solos :) ).
If you feel well will soldering iron you can make a simple box with pot yourself.

I'm not able to find volume pedals, all I see are some boost pedals. Can you link me to one?

I'm not opposed to it at all. Where can I buy a housing for this? A link to schematics?

That's strange (on finding volume pedals, I think):

I don't know about housings unfortunately. All my needs are covered locally in nice aluminum boxes that my local tech/engineer makes (or orders from a local maker). I am sure shipping one to US will be at least five times more expensive then the box itself.
Schematics is simple - input jack -pot - output jack.
Of'course there are much more complicated schematics, but that's the basic (and as far as I understand Papa's advise:) ).

You meant those volume pedals?  I'd rather make my own than use those. :D

Seriously, anyone knows about a place I can buy housing from?

I've tried the same concept with VH4, definitely a good way of taming the beast.

Still gotta find time to make what Peter suggested, I have a feeling it may even work better.

Thanks buddy, I've placed an order with him. Will cost me the same as building one myself, since I would have to pay for shipping those parts & save me some time & headache. And just an FYI for the VH4 users, it works great! Still, don't confuse taming your amp with playing it in your apartment.  I mean it's still better even in that case, but my aim was getting it to a reasonable volume, otherwise it's insanely loud or it doesn't sound that great.

Talk to Ho, from Vancouver - Ho's Electronics - on Kingsway. He makes custom shit for tons of bands who come through town and last I saw him he was finalizing this attenuator designed specifically for boutique amps that do not tolerate any throwback voltages. Basically, a boutique unit of extreme quality.

Google him... It'll cost a bit to ship, but he's apparently awesome. Friedman probably has something as well...

Peace,
V.

If a volume pedal can do this,
whats about setting a lower output level of the G-System in the Loop?
Should be the same effect, or not?
