The 20th is more expensive than the 101b which is already outrageously expensive LOL :D

lol come on guys ! you guys knows the answer ! i just wanna know which one that is more of my liking ;)

To me, the 20th is a much better sounding amp than the 101B and a little more versatile with some added functionality. There are some circuit and component changes. The best info is from the horses mouth. Check it out.....

Bogner XTC Models

Both are amazing, but the 20thA takes everything a step, or several, further. The ability to tweak the tone when the amp is loaded with all of its available options is incredible. I found - having had experience with the 101B and now a proud and happy owner of the 20thA for 2 years, that the 20thA offers more tonal textures. It's a bigger amp - sound wise. The boost is a very usable boost for all 3 channels, the tweaks are highly functional (excursion, vintage/old, plexi mode, bright, etc) in addition to the power scaling, and I LOVE mine having the Class A-AB switch.

If you have the extra cabbage, the 20thA is a no brainer. ANd that being said, getting the fully loaded head is the way to go.

Have any questions? Ask away...

Peace,
Mo

PS - see my thread "20thA about 20 hours in" for some details on the amp itself.

Thanks guys ! i have heard so many about the good on it ;) i know and i have a deep affair with bogner soon lol

20th is voiced much better, sits in a mix better. The 101b gets lost in a mix easily. I have a friend who had two 101b series heads and it was a constant struggle. George Lynch told me he didn't like the 101b for those reasons as well. Bogner really fixed some problems with the 20th. I hope they just make the 20th series, the new standard. Once you play a 20th, you'll never play a 101b again.

I have 3 Bogners, 6L6 20th and EL34 20th and 101B. To me the 20th sounds more modern. In fact I can get very similar tone from the 20th if you switch the vintage/modern mode to vintage. The 20th can sound more modern and more open if you want it to...Both in my opinion are stellar amps if you like that tone and feel.

According to my knowledge the basic difference is that 20th is a much better sounding amp than the 101B and a little more versatile with some added functionality.

Personal opinion or just what you have read and heard? Curious is all.

I am goin for a 20th myself hopefully in a few months...my Shiva needs some companionship. :)

For me an XTC is a total waste as even the Shiva has too much gain for me these days, LOL!

.........................Ive had the "too much gain " talk w/ someone else here, but for something really headscratching,..ive seen some here w/ herberts,vh4s,xtcs,mkIVs and v"s still for some reason throw a tube screamer,or even more intense overdrive on these heads that are darn near maxed out already! not enough gain? seriously? I use these heads(on thier high gain channels) and rarely ever need more then noon or 1 o'clock on the drive..and thats w/ a telecaster to boot, anyways...the bogner line is very nice..

I've never had a problem with my xtc 101b getting lost in the mix. It's 100w, crank it higher lol

I've owned both. As for features, they offer the same tone shaping options.
My 101B was not stock- I was runnig KT88's and added the Marvel mod as well- but can offer some comparisons.

The 20th is more open, less compressed than a 101B and has more upper mid voicing which adds more bite than the 101B.
It's got a more gain on tap than the 101B and I found the plexi option to be more useable. The cleans on the 20th are a huge improvement over a stock 101B, but I found that running the big bottles not only improved the cleans on my 101B, but also added some crispness to the highs & mids as well.
As richedie stated, the 20th stands out better in the mix than the 101B. More upper mids help seperate it from the bass range.
Overall, both amps are really good at what they do, but you have to want what they do. Doing it over again, I'd get a 101B and mod it up again before I felt the need to spend the extra $ on the 20th. YMMV.

I already owned two 101b's. Got a deal on a 20th. The blue channel did not hold a candle to the 101b blue channel. I was able to have an amp built from the ground up that used the preamp of the 101b with the power stage of the 20th (which is the same as the ecstasy classic). There are many here who extol the virtues of the 20th as being far superior to that of the 101b, but after having a/b'd my 20th against the standard version I am convinced that a lot of what is preferred about the 20th in comparison to standard version has a lot to do with the difference in the filtering of the power amp section in the 20th. The blue channel in the 101b absolutely fucking smokes the one in the 20th. If you were able to hear a 101b with the filtering of the 20th/classic, then you would understand what I am trying to express.

Thanks for all the info guys! Hopefully I can score an Ecstasy soon.

Fo'sure. I'm a Boggy fanboi

I think the Sheevs is just more a karranger than the 20thX. Whatever, they're awesome amps - pointless post really.

Good night,
Mo

Yep, I have played a few 101b's and my buddy gigged one The 20th is vastly improved, just like the 20th Shiva.

I am even considering selling my PWE Event Horizon to save for a used 20th XTC. I could live with Bogner amps and noth8ing else. Just give me a 20th Shiva, 20th XTC, Twin and Goldfinger and I wm in heaven for life. :)

Really tempted to sell my PWE and BFG modified Dual Rectifier to save for the 20th XTC!
However, I will say the PWE Event Horizon is amazing and the gain sounds scary close to the XTC blue channel with a little Soldano SLO mixed in.
