A lot of people around here have some pretty insane, rare, expensive gear. I'm curious though, with all the incredible stuff people have in their arsenals, what is the best "cheap" piece of gear that you've ever bought?

Mooer E-lady.

Its a really faithful mistress copy.

I used a crate blue voodoo 4x12 with uk v30s for my main gigging cab for 2 decades.

It was completely awesome. It won in shootouts with Mesa OS, Uberkabs, and everything else.

I also love a couple of import guitars - the Prestige Heritage standard and the Carlino Impulse are both World guitars from korea, and both very very good.

Madison Prophecy.
Little solid state toaster oven amp.
I think it was $400. Wish I still had it.
Crushing little fucker.

I don’t have it anymore as I gave it to a friend years ago, but I had a Michael Kelly Valor guitar that I bought new for about $500 when I was in college in the mid 2000’s that was just a great guitar. Played great, intonation was great, sounded great even with the stock rockfield pickups. Only issue with it was the lower cutaway didn’t give easy enough access to the upper frets but it wasn’t really any worse than a Les Paul.

That’s the best CHEAP gear I’ve probably had as it was cheap when new and a brand known as a cheap brand. However it was made at WMI in S. Korea and probably would cost closer to $1k if made today with how inflation has hit.

The other great cheap thing is another guitar- a US made Peavey LTD HB I picked up about a decade ago for a few hundred bucks off a guy from HCAF. These were made alongside the Wolfgangs in the Leakesville plant and it’s just a great guitar I got for a steal. Neck may be a little narrow for some but its always felt great to me.

my crate gx130c. i recorded with that which got us on some huge shows with some of my favorite bands. think i paid 150

me too, a strait one. everyone sleeps on these. they actually made a 2x15 one i kind of always wanted just for the look factor but i never found one

Original Mint 1987 Marshall Jubilee 2550 Head that I bought in 1995 for $390.00 & later sold in 2004 for $2,700.00
That’s completely nuts. I remember the long period of time where “everybody” dogged the JCM800’s and you could get them for cheap but a Jubilee for a few hundred bucks? Wild.

Got my Marshall Power Brake in perfect shape on OfferUp for $75. I like it more than the other much more expensive attenuators I've had.

If we are talking cheap to buy and we use it, gotta be my Boss OD1X. 75 used; it’s better for what I like than any VFE, Airis, Thorpy, Wizard, vintage Boss(GE10, SD1, OD1). Chased all others away. They all sound really good but at the end of the day, I just dialed those others to sound exactly like the X.
Ultimate Drive from Joyo is another. 30 bucks 14 years ago. Use it in tandem with the X into my 72 Trem. None of those other pedals/combinations worked even half as good as this one.
Now, if we’re talking buy low sell high, I have too many to list. A few-
2C SRG combo for 750$
Mint 1974 Marshall slant, museum condition 349$
1982 2204, best MV Marshall I’ve owned out of many, 799$
1988 2554 Jube, 700$
1988 2205-999$. But this was a few months ago…boosted it’s as good as any modded or stock 2203/4.
1988 Marshall slant w/8 ohm vintages…
399$. This is turning into my favorite cab.

Got my DSL50 head here for $250. It wasn't working, but it only took $50 to fix. I paid $65 for shipping. Then I did the OT and choke upgrade, sold the old OT to offset that cost. Now I have a super killer head and about $400 into it.

1981 went with a friend to a local guys house. He bought and sold gear from his house. His nickname was Fast Eddie. Didn’t have much money in those days. I picked up a 1961 Les Paul. Which was actually a SG which I later traded for a brand new Les Paul Kalamazoo

Paid 400.00.
