I got a used series 1 Mesa Boogie single rectifier a while ago. I'm a big Recto fan so this amp was intriguing. I've seen some love but also hate for this amp. A lot of people claim that it's "not as good as the duals or triples" but I did hear some good clips so I was carefully optimistic. The amp is in great shape and everything is functional so I'm happy about it!
After playing with it for a while and writing/recording all the music for my demo I can honestly say that for me, this is probably the best sounding Mesa I've ever played. I also love my others Mesas but this one sounds so unique. Pretty tight and aggressive really. I tried to capture a wide range of tones in my demo to showcase how awesome it sounds. It's 50w, I know, but the low end is huge on this thing and it's also plenty loud folks! I'll be doing a comparison of this one vs my dual and mini soon as well. Should be interesting!
Anyway, here's my review and demo of this underrated beast:
