What Marshall amp sounds like a Marshall?

Just saw this on the book of faces:

I've wanted one of those purple Marshalls since the day I laid eyes on them, lol

100%
I don't knock anyone if they want to run a large pedalboard. Though for me, nothing is more pure than guitar straight into the amp; possibly a boost out front for an extra push if needed. That goes for almost any type of amp. Marshall, Fender, Vox, Mesa, et. all.
I don't knock them either but I do sometimes chuckle when I see the stage acreage some of those boards consume, lol. To me it seems like the more stuff you put in your chain the more you junk up the tone. I know good players, pros, who will stomp two or three OD's simultaneously and bury their hot licks beneath an overdrive mudslide. Clarity should be the goal of any tone, clean or driven.

Marshall sounds like the vowel E.

Hiwatt and Fender sound like the vowel A.

For me the sounds I think of as "Marshall" is the NMV and single channel amps with a master.

Everything after that is less the sound I associate with Marshall.

I was a teenager in the mid 80s, so I tend to think of the 800 (2203). In reality, most of the bands I was listening to then were probably using the JMPs they were brought up with, so I bet NMV Marshalls are probably closer to what I think of as the Marshall sound. A lot of the modded and other higher gain Marshalls seem to lose (or at least dilute) the Marshall character that I like.

Jubes are great too. 800s are a great rock amp, and have tons of utility with a few pedals and their MV. JMPs though are the signature Marshall sound to me.

The tones are in real . Perfect agression
Overdose . Main riff tone .
It’s my favorite album of theirs. It sounds like pure fury. I’ve been marathoning Trek TNG and DS9 lately and it’s the sound of a warp core breach and a Klingon rite of ascension for 40 plus minutes.

Now you are thinking like a metal player

This was always what I tried to get with a Strat and Marshall. The neck pu tone, straight in (no fuzz) He later turns on an Octavia, but his Fuzz wasn't used in this tune. It took years to understand, it takes pretty good volume to get some of this.

I need to get out of my metalhead and back to listening to Jimmy. Fucking god amongst men he was when it came to guitar.

Sounds like fun but I’m not sure what you said
