Good amp for a dry vintage tone

I think budget was a consideration. I personally would go for a JCM800 because I can't afford to spend $5k on an amp.
I think someone mentioned that the JVM is only "ish" with a lot of tones. I'd just say it's a beast of its own, the tones are great and it can do modern tones better than a lot of amps out there. That's why I bought a second one after foolishly letting go of my first one.

I think my deal is, most anyone could make a 5150 or jcm or even jvm work. Peavey butcher, xxx, or jsx could work also.
The reason i go to more expensive is the guy had a mark series. That amp for sure would do anything and more than what i need.
When you start looking for "more" i generally dont think about bargain hunting; I start thinking upper echelon. But if just looking at a good range of tones, the prs mt100 or other variants seem to offer a ton of bang for the buck

The thing is Wizards are not "better Marshalls." They feel and sound different. I've seen lots of people flip Wizards after getting them because they were told they were the ultimate Marshalls or something like that (which is what happened to me).
Ive never played most of those except the 6505. I know in flames used them if I'm not mistaken and they got some decent clarity, but I anticipate I'm looking for significantly more string clarity. I'll admit I've never owned one or played one anywhere other than a guitar center

re clarity, maybe use less gain and/ or up the presence.
another a bit leftwing idea about vintage clarity and dryness, probably painfully much of it, is a div by 13. the gainier most Marshall-like, JJN.
or what about a SLO? can be painfully clear too.

I remember deliberating between the model t clone and a Hiwatt clone. I hear the Fryette deliverance is described as having a Hiwatt character to it.

Fryette ultralead much much better imo. The clarity and voicing on that amp are very good.
But yes, fryette and wizard get compared to hiwatt a lot
Is the UL synonymous with the pitbull? I know they don't make those anymore. I'm pretty sure Aaron turner from isis used them. Love that band, but would never want his tone.

I am not that versed. Just know what i hear when i play the amps. I would focus less on what bands sound like. There is a lot besides the amp going on there, and some amps can be dialed weird.

Indeed indeed. Yeah I'm probably going to abuse the musicians friend/guitar center return policy for the next 6 months so I can do some exploring. I actually just ordered a jcm800 since I should probably have an idea of what it sounds/feels like since most of the amps are probably modelled after it in some way or another. If I don't care for it I'll go in the fryette/ other suggestions direction.

Pick up a superdrive from @griff10672
He makes the best pedals i have used. I dont boost my current amp, but with that 800, you put that sd1 into it, there is going to be magic. Especially if you turn the motherfucker up
Noted! I just ordered a used Friedman overdrive deluxe, but I do plan on exploring some different overdrives soon as I've been stuck on using earthquaker stuff for awhile now.

My first thought when reading the op was an old VHT amp. Dry af, but tight and precise.
Kind of off subject, but anyone know how a hiwatt and a sunny model t differ?

The Vintage and Modern Classics are better Marshalls. The rest of the line from the clips appear not to be. They are not bedroom amps, played with a band is where they excell.
