Reissue Recto - Found a clip

i was wondering why you were so upset about it 😆

Someone screen grabbed the video so it’s available here but the audio quality got knocked down a few pegs:

Edit: Jesus what a pain. Ok I screen grabbed someone else’s screen grab

Haha yeah dude from the way it was described, it sounded like Mesa moved power or standby to the back or something and just replaced it with the bold / spongy knob and I just had this "THE FUCK?!" gut reaction. :D Glad it's not like that.

And thanks for reposting the vid, sounds good! Well... for the amp being set to Spongy anyway, lol.

It still won't have those older 420 coke bottles though. I guess they probably have the JJ/445.

So what? Those tubes don’t make or break a recto and they’re long, not available anyway.
Just say'n that when people compare them and say "close but not quite there" they need to take tubes into account.
I actually have a stash of the 420s plus plenty of those older preamp tubes that were stock in these way back.

Yeah, I get that. In my experience the 420’s didn’t sound better, just a little different but even less noticeable at lower volumes. I recently had a 50/50 with the 420’s still in it but they were at about 50-60% life. Replacement Mesa 6L6’s sounded better, which of course you hope a fresh tube would.
Even though I have recto covered with my T-Verb I would dig one of these because the chrom/blackout aesthetic is one of my absolute favorites. But unfortunately I see this being priced at near 3K or higher which would be just ridiculous.

Wow!

The end of that clip sounds GOOD

I’m more stoked for the dual rec reissue. I have a mark series, but I don’t have the ying dual rectifier to the yang of my 6505+.

I have a 95 Mesa T-Verb too and am happy with it 😊 I see this Recto reissue being a ridiculous money grab 💰 just like the Mark IIC+ reissue.

I might have one… I might have made a demo of one… I might play dad rock on it…

oh goddamn dude, come on, the Christmas season is about red and green balls, not blue balls! :D

Seriously though, that's awesome, glad you were able to get one before the Recto RI marketing videos come out. You're obviously going to get proper sounds out of it, so the whole controversy of "why hasn't anybody made it sound good yet" shouldn't happen like it did with the IIC+ RI. Looking forward to the video!

It'll probably take ages before these are available in Europe, luckily some Multi-watt's are still in stock here, so snagged one instead of the RI

I love how they discontinued the MW, which was like $1000 cheaper, so they could release this, presumably with less actual features, and increase the price by a ton. Gibson, you sneaky bastards
Fuck they discontinued the MW dual? I thought it was still an option. You’d lose your ass on this reissue as there’s no way it would retain value the same. Man that makes it really hard to justify at that price given the limited features comparatively :aww:

I saw a short clip in FB earlier today and thought it just sounded "OK". Then I started to read this thread. Then I started to think, oh shit, Gibson didn't learn anything with the M2C+RI release. Then I saw Ola's post and now I have a little bit of hope.

But alas, that is a steep pri ce IMO for a base production model from Gibson. Money hungry fuckers.

And I don't get this new power switch thing, so you switch from "Off" to either "Bold" or "Spongy" and THEN switch off "Standby"? I guess that's clever but I don't think people are switching back and forth all that often. :dunno:

Yeah. Another dick move. Fuck Gibson.

Yeah that price is well beyond a hard no. Honestly, even used they will be too much. I knew it after seeing the price for IIC+. Bummer, because this will make people try for even higher prices of OG 2 channels, which are stupid as is.

There are several Mesa amps that already do this. My Lonestar Classic and Mark IV have 3-postition "Full/Off/Tweed" power switches, and the Recto RI's "Bold/Off/Spongy" power switch works the exact same way, it's just labeled differently.

It's just a built-in voltage drop option like you'd get with a variac. The OG 2-channel Recto has one of these switches but it's on the back. Mesa tends to consolidate systems like that between amps over time so it's not a huge surprise to find it on the new Recto.
