Soooo… $3499 for the RI Dual Rec?

I didn’t, I put myself on the list for the Monster Hunter Fender but I think I will cancel it because it looks like a brown piece of shit in the pictures I’ve seen

That does look odd. Like a bad Christmas sweater that someone was wearing when a badger attacked them.

Ain’t that the truth. I have 9 amps that I could probably boil down to 8…maybe.

@Ola Englund putting his money where his mouth is and buying the demo amp says a lot I think.
Not a reach when there’s so much nostalgia attached to the purchase…but I don’t think I’d be as excited to buy another Ross, solid state combo (my first amp in ‘84/‘85) as I would a chrome chassis recto ?

If this Recto RI is Rev F-ish with those funky mids, it may also win the live mix battle.
I was trying to not be overly negative with the term funky.

I should have said wooly. Like the bush is too thick.

I have many Rectos and only one has had this and I fight it.

Choosing hotter tubes helps.

Ah shit yeah I love my tremoverb… thanks for reminding me.

Tone comparison wise, I mean it’s tough to compare clips vs clips, that tremoverb video is scooped as hell by the microphone mix. I like the sound of both though
I know your more recent videos are much better when it comes to production but there is something raw and aggressive that I particularly like about these old videos. Might be the simple m160 / sm 58 mic thru the 2x12 ! Yeah I've had two Tremoverbs which I love and several early rectos like a 1992 rev D serial 24Χ that I was really fond of! Glad to hear you like the new one and congrats. Your clips are awesome

It's probable they're loading these with STR-445 RED which will be cold AF. Might be cold enough that (with careful testing) EL34 mode (hotter bias) could work.

It might be cause I just slapped the microphone somewhere, I got tired of people saying I sounded the same so I just always used different mic placements. At the end of the day I just can’t escape it ?

meh, I wouldn't apologize for sounding like Ola through anything you use. Your vids are always great man, and give a really good idea of the gear IMO. You are one of the channels I look to first if I'm interested in something. Been a long time subscriber.

Keep up the good work man , we all love your videos! Your Folkesson video made me buy one from Tommy himself ? Glad to see you here by the way!
Cheers

This may not be everyone's idea of what the iconic Recto sound is, but I thought I would toss it out there. Just food for thought.

I really don't think Wizards record very well, TBH. What they sound like 2" in front of the cone is not anywhere near as flattering as how they sound in the room. Possibly because of the thing I don't like about them, how dry & unforgiving they are...?

On the other side of this, what you say about Mesas, IMO applies even more to 5150s. I've never been a big fan of them live, but there's no denying that they KILL for recorded metal tones.
Check out The Pretty Reckless albums. Pretty killer tone imo. Out of an MCII I believe. Saw them live at Rock Fest here, in 14 and in Chicago at a place I don't remember in 2015. Fucking crushing live hard rock tone. Metal? Not sure if that amp would be tight enough but who knows. I'm sure the newer models like the HR, newer MTL are.
As far as a live amp, that tone is all modded Marshall to me. Cut better than any low mid centric amp, without a doubt.

Oh without a doubt the MTL I had, like the SLO, destroyed all things Mesa in the live band mix in terms of cut and they also had great tone. Unfortunatley I really just didn't enjoy playing the MTL. Playing the Mesas is my love affair between my fingers & the fretboard so I deal with the fact that they don't sit the best live, but hey, in a 1 guitar band like TIGHTEN or Metallica it works itself out. :ROFLMAO:

The SLO is the best thing I've played that had killer live cut & killer feels. If I ever switch from metal to rock I'd def switch back to a SLO. In the mean time, at least I've found the IIB+, III+ & IVb that rip well enough live even if that other Mark is more lackluster on stage...

I'm curious to try a Reco RI live. So far IMO the Revs C, F, G & Tremoverb were OK live and the Dual MW was pretty good live since it had better upper mids.

The Hell Razor unlike the MTL has imo great feel that is more connected/liquid than other Wizard’s with way more saturation and gain on tap (stupid amounts of gain if needed). Not dry or unforgiving like the MTL, but still an honest amp with a lot of clarity that all wizards have. I bet it would cut similarly well. The MTL and MC weren’t keepers for me, but my Hell Razor KT150 is somewhere in my top 4. 680 plate voltage too
