Thanks! Your clips always sound great too and it's especially helpful when you share tips like above for us noobs.
I agree about being mighty close to the real thing and honestly, in a mix setting you'd probably never hear that little bit anyway (IMO). At the end of the day I just want to make...
Agreed about the Nitro! Has something special about it and don't laugh, but I honestly think some models improve on their real life counterpart and this is one of them, at least in my experience and in a full mix setting (I owned a Splawn QR for years but never fully loved it for recording lead...
Congrats! The Dyna Cab feature is great but then so are many IR's as well.
I'm just repeating what was been mentioned above, but i was overwhelmed at first (3 years into my Axe FX now) and also quickly realized I'd better just narrow my focus down to a handful of fav models and IR's and run...
Been mixing into my song ideas these little passages using fingers instead of a pick, but not true "hybrid" picking, that shit is above my pay grade lol....this is more of a legato + the lightest touch with the fingers (intro solo).
1 Soldano SLO 100 (still own)
2 Bogner 101B (still own)
3 JCM800 2210 (in rare green, shoulda kept it)
4 Friedman SmallBox (sold it - miss it, the plexi channel could nail VH tones with a boost pedal)
5 Cameron modded Chupacabra...aka, the Chupacameron (yes, I had that amp for several years and...
I use that exact pick as well, of course I'm a bit of a Beach fan so that may have something to do with it. I like to believe the medium thickness adds a hint of chewiness to single notes (which I love). I like his taste in guitars too actually, using my poor mans version of one in this track...
This thread needs more notes!
Two of my most favorite tones from back in the day (it doesn't hurt that the compositions and playing are amazing). Honestly could pick any track from these albums but these jumped to mind first when I read the thread title.
FWIW, I have an SLO and a 101B, totally a long time tube amp user/recordist....but I also added an AxFX III to the home studio a couple years ago and umm, I've been recording more with it than the others. Keep your tube amps/cabs for a while of course to be safe after you've added a modern...
Love mine, so easy to record! Here it is in more of a shred/instrumental tune vs all the vocal rock stuff posted.
I wasn't set up for video's at this time (2016), kinda lame visual clip but handy way to share a track...
I know there's lots of Charvel love on this board and I'm big fan too...but I once had someone say my old CS San Dimas was "so ugly it's actually pretty cool" lol.
Thanks again everyone, it's flattering, especially here, this board is loaded with badass players and tone junkies, pretty cool to have you all chiming in! I'm loving the throwback nods to the golden era of this stuff, it's where my heart is at (or put it this way, it's hard to teach an old dog...
