I had a pretty clean one of those in the same color. I always wanted one, but didn't bond with it at all. I think I sold it for $1300 about four yrs ago, but it was pretty clean and will OHSC and hang tag.
I was getting snobby about only using NOS preamp tubes, but the Mojotone 2204 build I just did sounded fantastic with the JJs that shipped with the kit. Still, I have a Hammond-labeled Mullard I put in V1 and it sounds better.
I think his white one is actually a 355, not a 335. I don't know the difference, but I have the Epi 355 and want a real Gibson ES-335 again. I traded one for an SLO long ago. And while the trade was heavily in my favor, I miss the 335 more than I missed the since-sold SLO. I will have...
I'll bump this one. I have this amp and it SLAYS. It's not for the faint of heart, but it always, always brings it, it always cuts through the mix in a live situation and you will never be disappointed. This is a good price and it's a ton of amp for the money. If I didn't already have one....
I don't like modded Marshalls. Stock is good enough and it's a crime to mod the vintage stuff. But .... if someone stole most of my gear and left me with one good guitar and amp, as pissed as I'd be, I can't say my playing or tone would really suffer. It's not like I play a gig and anyone in...
If I were on the hunt for a boutique NMV Marshall-type and were on a budget, I'd go Ceriatone. If not on a budget, I'd probably go Germino. I have about $1300 into my '69 1959SLP clone build and it has Merren iron.
I got my 1987xl for $627 on eBay, late night, drunken bid, amp was listed as "not working, parts only." It just needed tubes and I had it running five min. after unpacking. I got a new headshell from Sour Mash for it and it is such a killer amp. It responds well to tube rolling. I had a MV...
I saw them twice. I worked security at the Stones show at Three Rivers Stadium, fall 1989, worked in the pit, saw the soundcheck and the show. Saw them again when they came back around on their own at the Syria Mosque, also worked security and got a signed setlist and photo with all of them...
Here's one from a previous gig at the same venue. Kinda hard to hear it in this one, but I used my old GK 250ML and it totally nailed the tone. I have so many hours on that amp, bought it in 1988 and stood in line to pay next to Greg Howe, who was a buddy then.
Had a pretty nice gig last night. I have a Hentor Sportscaster clone build I ran into a Marshall 4010 with a Fryette PS-2. Wifey took the cell phone video.
Why would pre-Zounds Marshalls suddenly be worth more, at least the models that haven't been made for many years and haven't been reissued? My '79 2203 is no more rare today than it was last week. Ditto for the JCM2000 series. When EVH died, the EBMM EVH prices went through the roof, but his...
I think all those JMPs in Ed's rigs are NMV versions. I don't know how common they were back then, but they're kind of rare these days. I've had two of them and regret selling them.
