2203KK VS. Silver Jubilee

Yes he does, but that Jubilee vid of his really stands out. It’s so raw, in your face, and unproduced sounding.
5153s are cool but no contest if you compare the KK or Jubilee in grunt, clarity etc. The Marshalls are just a much better sounding amp esp with volume..the 5153s are distortion pedal sounding in comparison.

I’m more fan of KK. It has more low-mid grunt and voicing is suited for metal. Diode mode in Jubilee sounds like distortion pedal and I prefer boosting non-pulled lead channel.

I liked the non pulled lead channel boosted also..plus leaving the Clip pushed in will give you a true clean tone. But even with it pulled, the "fizzy" goes away with decent volume.
Both amps are killer though and different enough to own both...plus as Sam said a JMP 2203 as well. Can't go wrong with any of those.

If you want a Marshall sound back in your arsenal I say just get a late ‘70’s JMP2203 with a decent boost or an early ‘80’s JCM800 2203, but I prefer the late ‘70’s JMP’s. The Jubilee’s sound very good too, but I liked my JMP more. It sounded to me more raw, open and aggressive, while the Jubilee seemed smoother. I still like my JMP boosted more overall than an any modded Marshall’s. Still one of my top 5 favorite high gain sounds I’ve had

It’s true that the Jubilee has much more responsive eq controls and a tighter low end than my jmp2203, but I still found myself preferring other amps I had
I would add a depthmod to that and be done, if you need more defined low end after that use a boost that has eq like a pq3

That sounds great. Is that boosted? Did you have to remove a resistor to go EL-34? I’m not really a KT88 guy. Had them in a Splawn and Cobra, and if I remember correctly, they were kinda dry and sterile.

Yeah, I’m familiar with those too, and they’re definitely worth consideration. Isn’t the KK basically just a really good JCM800 with bells and whistles?

Well I’ve admittedly not tried a KK, but bells and whistles yes, but if it’s like recent made jcm800’s, which I have played, it won’t sound quite as warm or organic as the real vintage ones. I though like the JMP2203’s more than 800’s because they consistently seem to have more growl/roar and warmth to the tone, even if they’re supposedly the same amp on paper

This clip is I think a good example of what a boosted JMP can do:

I remember that clip! Killer! Wasn’t that amp BFG modded?

What guitar is that? it looks killer.

I’ve had countless Marshall’s and several Marshall type amps. The Silver Jubilee smokes them all. That being said, a good number of the reissues were shipped with the bias jacked up. Between that and the fact that you have to know how to dial them in and they do need boosted to get to the promised land, they got a bad rep when they first came out. I hated mine and couldn’t figure why it sounded so underwhelming. I replaced the stock tubes, biased it a little hot and it’s the best sounding Marshall/ Marshall style amp I’ve heard. Hands down. Gary Holt is using the 2555x to record the new Exodus record for a reason. YMMV

I just got a new Jubilee and have owned every Marshall under the sun...it rules. Clippers off and boosted and it gets you to where you want. It's like a really good modded jcm 800 with more versatility, the fact you can run any power amp tubes is awesome as well!

This! I love the original best, at volume the vintage transformers just slightly edge the reissue...BUT...the fact that you can bias ANY 2 pair or quad of octal power tubes is a GREAT feature with the 2555X....I ran 2 6L6 with 2 6550s; 2 KT90s with 2 EL34s; all 6L6, KT88s the list goes on.
This amp is THE new Marshall to get, if you want new. Great MV too...new or vintage the taper is fantastic.

I like using a 10 band EQ in the loop of my 2555SL to cut about 2-3dB at 250Hz. This way the amp sounds a lot clearer without losing any of the tone and lends itself much better to overdrive or boost pedals placed in front. The clipping diodes, when engaged, help tighten up the gain channel while adding a bit more saturation. And if that's not enough, the preamp loves treble boosters. It sounds great with everything I have thrown at it - some expensive Chandler Limited boosters, the Friedman Buxom Boost, the Catalinbread Naga Viper, the Metropoulos Supaboost and even the age old Boss GE-7 EQ. I am personally not a huge fan of overdrive/distortion pedals as they rob some of the character of the Jubilee preamp. In any case, dialing in modern tones with a bit of tweaking and a couple of pedals is a breeze, if desired.

Yes. I can't speak for KK, but Jubilee has a really smooth overdrive. I would love someone to build me a single channel version of it.

Doesn't the KK come stock with KT88's? anyways I also heard that it has oversized transformers and puts out a ton of lows too. It really sounds like it does going by the latest Slayer album repentless.
