A certain someone supposedly has a new shop in Cali and looks to be building amps again.....

If it were as simple as building a Jose Marshall following a reverse engineered Jose or Cameron Jose then the Ceriatone Chupacabra, Yeti and even the Molecular/Atomica clones would sound exactly like Mark's amps...yet they don't. I'm not saying they don't sound good, they don't exactly sound or feel like an authentic Cameron amp according to most that purchased them. Mark Cameron even modded a Chupacabra to get it to sound like his amps. By all accounts Ceriatone supposedly even has a reverse engineered CCV model King Kong and no one has ever posted a clip showing it nails the CCV tones.

If you can find one stock Ceriatone clip that sounds exactly like this clip I will retract my statement in full.

I'm not saying a Ceriatone kit nails it 100%. Because I agree, they don't.

Well known Mark uses Celestion G12H30s in his cabs. The clips from back in the day with Mark, Dave Meniketti and Gainfreak playing Mark’s homemade super strat style guitar had a Duncan Screaming Demon in it. Psychodave’s clips with his red Charvel used the Suhr Aldrich.
Anniversaries though, not the Heritage H30s. And I believe they are from the early 90s and used different cones than the super bright H30 Annies we mostly hate.

I would also love to hear Nick's version of the Cameron HG Jose circuit, as other's have raved about the perfection of his mods.
Nick owned a particularly great Cam Aldrich SLP reissue. He eventually cloned the circuit for a few guys here and there...I would get 4 amps modded by him over the years. No Jose though; but I would feel confident in you liking his Aldrich mod.

If you are able to duplicate the sound and tone of the gain side of that Cameron modded JMP in the Jason Tong / HeadFirst clip, we definitely need to talk.
I can do it. So can many others. But I don't really want to because I got my own sound going on. I spent a lot of time learning and experimenting and arrived at my own take on it. Mark and I even played my fave build side-by-side with a few of his amps at his place a few years ago. He liked it and was nice enough to offer a few additional ideas/tips to try. But in the end, I lean toward a more modern prog-metal sound. Less compression, stiffer, more mid-range bark, less hair, angrier, more pissed off. I was able to take a peak at a few of his builds as well (I've also owned a few).

Not sure of how to describe it, but everyone knows "that" Cameron sound anyway.........note separation / articulation, slightly congested, and very "up front" / present tone.
We probably have different tastes, which is totally ok. They Camerons I've owned were fine, just ultimately not my style. And I came to the same conclusion about the ones I got to play at his place. Well, actually there was one amp that did stand out. But it wasn't something he's ever offered to anybody before.

Sound like a good tone somehow being raped by honey bees at the same time.

Ear fatigue city after 16 minutes.
Nothing special about this tone.

Headfirst Evil Joe drops big steaming turds all over this every day and twice on Sundays.

🥱

That’s why I was wondering what he uses, I have a newer anniversary and super bright is what it is

I had them from when they first came out. I thought my first batch were just better sounding , and then gradually accumulated more of them and they were brighter. I still have just a couple but don't use them a lot. What I found is they break in and sound nicer and nicer. I like my Scumback speakers the most of all speakers, BUT you need to continue pummelling the g12h30 70th anniversaries with loud sound and playing and they WILL start sounding much better and much less bright. If you can't play loud and you feel they're way bright, (Imo) they'll stay way bright

Just based off conversations I've had with Mark and others.

You're not the only one.

That said, my earlier posts were more tongue-in-cheek, referring to how ridiculous it is that people still put these amps on a pedestal. Whether it's a "Jose" with diodes or a plate-fed stack or an actual additional tube stage...

I can kind of understand. I mean, I've heard clips of a few amps from recent builders that really wowed me. I was close to buying one but then I remembered I've owned/played a hundred different amp designs and at the end of the day the quest for "the one" is all in our heads. It's not worth the trouble.

I've heard many modded Marshalls that made me go "wow I want one", then I listen to a properly cranked 1987X or 2203/2204 or a clone again and I realize actually prefer those plus a boost.

I remember Scameron had already f’d over those people. Brad and Dave entered the fray and started a company w/ Cameron to build amps that would, in turn, fund the Amps for those who got screwed. Brad even took a list of folks to make whole when they started.

I don’t remember Brad or Dave ever screwing anyone or assuming any debt—there was a big disclaimer by Brad that they were going to TRY to make those whole who got screwed. Cameron flaked again and Brad lost a ton of weight and thought he was Superman. Left his family and met some chick in LA, beat the snot out of her and went to jail. That’s all I remember.
Didn’t he also cash out an inherited multi generational family commercial HVAC company at the same time basically ruining family ties?

The validity of this statement shouldn’t be overlooked. A non master volume amp with a decent low noise boost will cover a lot more ground than people give credit. But that’s too easy so here we are on page whatever.
