 man. that sounds killer...love the percussiveness of the mutes and harmonics...nice edge too...bet it cuts thru really well in a live band situation

Awesome Jason. The way a (lead) Marshall should be. Excellent.

I personally thought the lead tone sounded really thin and brittle.

*Waits to be flamed* :aww:

Thanks for all the comments guys. I'm going to try and do a couple more today. With even MORE gain!

Just kidding. :D ;)

Yeah well, you're thin and brittle. :D

Seriously though, I never here the same things you do in clips. Like when you say, "it sounds really distant".......I never hear that.

Great clip! I am going to go play my Cameron now. That is not brittle at all. Very nice and singing!!!

Most of your more recent clips have been really bright sounding IMO. Different than most of your old clips. You change anything in your recording setup recently?

Yes and no. I havn't changed anything, but have been having issues with it sounding dark while I play it back in my software (while I'm recording), then after I export and convert it, it sounds a lot brighter. Might be time to get some new stuff. That's ok I guess, I like new stuff.

Sounds good JB. Alittle too edgy for me, sounded kinda Boogie-ish on the rhythm (saturated). I'd like to hear alittle more warmth or body maybe...could be the recording though. You use a 609 right?

I thought it rocked man! Yeah, my playing tastes have changed a bit (less gain) from those glorious 80's days too, but I still love to listen to that tone. Never goes out of style for me. I thought the lead killed too, although I'm on the cheap little computer speakers, still sounded great to me and really nice playing too.

Yeah, I have a 3 way gain and a couple bright switches on the amp for different levels of gain and compression.....I had them all set to full out gain and saturation. :D

I'm using an E609 and an SM57, and pan them at about 10:00 and 2:00 on my board.

Sounded good, but I have liked other clips you have posted better in terms of tone. I dug the lead playing alot on this one though .... the dampening and pinch harmonics. Nice touch..

Cool...thats the same mic setup Ive been using. I hear the 609 in the recording, at least I think thats what I'm hearing. Its got a really edgy sound thru my stuff, I don't like it by itself.

Have you tried an I5 or Beta 57 yet?

Did a quick little clip with the HG Jose tonight. Ryhthm is double tracked and panned left and right. Lead is a single track cloned, panned, and delay added on on side. I had an ass load of gain dialed in. :D

That's your best Cameron clip yet! I dig it!

Mentoneman is having a midlife crisis, perhaps. I understand where he is coming from, but you're never too old to rock if you really mean it. And that's the key...really meaning what you play.

i know i'm up for attack with comments like this, and that's cool by me-

but i *know* it's not just me that feels this way, or at least had thought about it. metal tones for me are strolls down memory lane for sure. fun but not where my mind is fixated any longer.

all in all, JB's clip and tone were nice, and i still appreciate great gained out tone. gainfreak's clip of the JVM was ridiculously cool.

I thought it was good?!? the lead was a tad bright and edgy but even so, it works for that style playing. it didn't bother me that it sounded that way.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news for mentoneman, but that Mk-ish(even if it is a Marshall) rhythm tone, is pretty much a classic tone now in terms of metal tones. whether his old ass likes it or not.

Hey are you in town today?

Since when was there an age limit put on what tones you're allowed to use? I agree it might look a little funny seeing some dudes in their 70's jamming out some Cannibal Corpse tunes, but if that's what gets their rocks off who cares!? Are you supposed to just cut ties with your metal roots and relegate yourself to playing soft jazz because your physical appearance is more fitting playing elevator music? If your tastes change as you get older that's fine too, but the mentality that age dictates your tone just leaves me  . Rockon all old-fart metalheads  !

This is great for that style of playing, but not my cup of tea as far as "Pure/Organic" Marshall tone. I think Mark is a cool dude and respect his work. There's is something about the eq'ing on his mods and compression thats just doesn't do it for me. Just give me a good sounding stock head with an OD pedal that cleans up nicely and turn up! To each is own though, keep ripping dude!

no its supposed to be next Saturday. sorry if that was unclear in the e-mail. I'm not 100% sure if its happening or not. if you're around cool, but don't make plans around me coming up in case it doesn't pan out. it's not really my trip to plan, so who the hell knows  :)

I want to add to my last post too...
I'm not opposed in any way, shape or form to non-modern non-high gain tones. I LOVE organic more old school tones. but for the style of the clip, its a completely fitting tone. that type of tone isn't going anywhere, its here to stay. that was my point.

This.

+1000

How old is mentoneman anyway?? I mean hell I'm 41 and I still love crushing distorted metal, only now I can appreciate other forms of music as well.

\m/ :D \m/
