How old is mentoneman anyway?? I mean hell I'm 41 and I still love crushing distorted metal, only now I can appreciate other forms of music as well.

\m/ :D \m/

Have you seen Lord of the Rings ? He's old like that Gandolf dude

Actually he's old like you (and me ;) )

I actually agree with Pat on a bunch of different levels, but will say that I still love the kind of tones you can get out of the Camerons. While this may not be my favorite clip that J.B. has posted, having owned his Cameron I know for a fact how incredibly versatile that particular amp is - everything from barely on dirt to way more gain on tap than is even in this clip.

My tastes have changed over the years too, but I still want the ability to get the kind of tones in this clip cause' it is a gas to play with. For my everyday use, I'll take less gain, more clarity and touch sensitivity - but will say it's all in how you dial the amp in. J.B.'s Cameron is a killer and would more than meet my own requirements for versatility. J.B. is just a jackass for not selling it back to me :aww: :scared:  ......

Thats o.k. though...my Aiken Intuder, D/13 RSA23, and the Komet Concorde hanging out at my house (temporarily) are keeping me happy.

Rock on, J.B.

I didn't realize that George Lynch goes by JB on the Rig-Talk boards! Great clip Jason! I would love to own a Cameron amp!

You sound like me....and I don't know if that's good.

I used to really dig higher gained amps, but I'm just not drawn to them anymore...guess I better go shopping for a rocking chair.

I blame Landau, Krantz, Beck, Timmons, Carlton, Garsed, Scofield, Metheny, Ford, Henderson, Benson, Gilmour, Johnson, Becker...

i really dig some of the players in your list, and some of them have loads of gain, but it's shaped differently. the edge/presence sort of sneaks up on you after the attack of the note. landau's live lead tone sounds like a freight train carrying an angry t-rex! yet he can use that same tone to play a hendrix cover or a solo on a cher cd because it's a broad lyrical tone.

i mixed sound for 2 different bands last night. both electric players used fender combos and nice boutique pedalboards going after tones much like some of the players on your list.

again, mark's amps sound great. it's high gain tone done right. i like a mark III lead channel set to stun. i like the peacemaker set for brown sound. i like noodling gary moore licks on my tol 100 channel 4. the OD100 is amazing for hi gain. the herbert channel 3 is sick. i like the bogner, vht, engl, etc...hi gain sound.

that ripping 80's sound is very specific to a genre of music which i loved in the 80s/90s and will always have a soft spot for. it's the sound a generation grew up on. it's a tone that's easy to play fast with---who doesn't like that?

but for me it's a color that frankly i need less of in my live arsenal as i grow as a player.

in the end, if i could pick up an acoustic guitar off the shelf and play this:

shred

i'd be good with it.

i see all the comments on me being "old" as a misguided way of saying "mature" :D

Cool clip...cool playing...cool tone! :D

Different tones never go out of style...they're tools to be used depending on the music being played. Blues, rock, metal, shred, jazz, fusion and even "surf" music all have a certain tone they generally work best with...all are valid. :D

I liked it. Lead tone sounded great to me too. I'm stuck in the '80's for my favourite guitar tone.

I can understand about the lower gain prefence as your ear and taste grow... lately I'm playing my Avenger at 3.5 on the Gain knob and backed off the mids quite a bit. Sounds great and surprisingly pretty heavy as well. Especially with a stop tail Wolfgang and "pure nickel' strings through a Marshal 4x12 with Greenbacks. Rawk!!

Acoustic clip was great too.
