Alcatrazz with Yngwie

This was the first time I heard of him and believe it was on MTV way back in the day. Such a tasty solo.

You may or may not be a fan of Graham Bonnet but this song is cool in my book.

Bonnet was a bit strange looking but his voice seems to work on a lot of Rock stuff. Schenker used him too for that reason.

Love early Yngwie. So smooth and calculated. Played a little slower ( but still fast) and the notes he chose made sense. I am seeing him this friday at a local dive. Can't wait to see him walk in there looking like a musketeer.

Both their live concerts on YouTube with yngwie and Vai are great. I prefer Vai in the band.

I thought Vai was a bad fit.. never had that great of a picking hand and couldn't handle YJM's chops. Too much legato and hammer ons/offs. Good in his own thing for sure though.

That was a great band and Yngwie seems to genuinely enjoy playing with them.

I was greatly influenced by Yngwie Malmsteen from the Steeler Lp to the Odyssey Lp.
Copied his style verbatim, back in the day .
After Odyssey, I felt that I learned all could learn from him .

Maybe one day you'll have your own style.

Odyssey is an amazing album. I would take it one further and throw eclipse on there too because I love the arpeggio sequences he does on Demon Driver and Motherless child for example. So cool. Since then though, he sort of rehashes all these patterns sped up without making any sort of musical sense or paying attention to timing. So I'd agree, after a solid 10 years, he pretty much gave us his best work. I'm seeing him tonight actually.. playing to tracks and with a light show. He better bust out a smoke machine! Should be a fun assault on my ear drums.
