I'm not downing what happened, all the cool amps, hardwork etc.... I just don't think ANY of the amps sounded good on that clip. It definetely was the recording procedure. :(

the aldrich was awful in lugo's shootout
processed, fizzy and no 3D sounding at all
friedman, wizard, fortin and surreal kicked some major asses, including the CCV, imo
was the "jose" in the videos a cameron too?
that one was pretty cool

I typed three different responses to this, but at the end of the day, who cares?

The Jose was a real one. Belongs to Dave Freidman.

I thought the Fortin sounded awful to say the least. But it was badly recorded. The Bones just kills!

Dave's amp sounded awesome that is for sure!

I like the Custom 75 much better than the CCV...

I liked the Fortin
sounded different than usual
smoother and more british sounding than I would expect from a Fortin

It won. They just didn't know how to record it correctly   :D

I miss my Aldrich mod...althoughit was super bright. In the end the Jose was more for me

No mistake about it... The CCV is the best amp I have ever heard in Person... BUT

In that recording I thought the Cameron/Aldrich ROOLED!

I'm Just Sayin'

I had that Aldrich at the house for about 6 months...played the shit out of it!!!! It's a great amp.

It's the first one he did, and the one Norum used on some album or another

Believe it or not, it's running 2 out of 4 tubes, and those two are old 6L6's :D

If you can dodge the neighbors pit bull and get to Mark, maybe hook a brother up...... :D
I heard the pitbull is harmless and wouldn't or should I say couldn't piss on a fire hydrant

That thing is a big puppy, nothing to worry about. He heads me off at Marks porch every time I go over there to smell me to death then lays down and wants a belly scratching.

I don't think all the amps sounded bad. What I have found is people who's favorite amps didn't sound as good as other amps are blaming the clips but I guess that's human nature. I listened to raw guitar clips everyday from all different producers in LA, those clips sound fine. As far as the Cameron stuff sounding as good as it can or not, those were Mark's personal amps, brought by Mark and dialed in by Mark himself at the moment of recording. What you hear in the clip is how they sounded in the room, I was there standing in front of the cab playing guitar. If you want to discuss this further email me.

It's Rediculous to even speculate about the sound... Everyone who's listening to the clips are listening on Shitty Computer Speakers!!! OMFG! How can you expect it to sound good??

I didn't think the CCV sounded like My CCV in the Room, and I have pretty good speakers with a 12" Sub, but it will never be the same as hearing it in person. I bet a lot of guys are listening to the clips on LAPTOPS!!!!

I think you did a bang up job with what is a very hard task...

All you can do is compare each amp in the video against the others... Not a Real Live Amp

My 2 Cents...

I wish I didn't post that, I just logged back on to delete it but Roid got there first. Damn. Anyway, this amp fest was one for the record books and has cured me of ever wanting to do it again. Live and learn. I hope that I didn't fail and show any amps in a bad light, I did my best.

Hey James...

You did great... And I bet on your Studio Monitors it's sounds just like the Amps... Or Very Close.

People just have to realize what equipment THEY ARE LISTENING TO THE CLIPS ON!!!!

PERIOD!

I agree with Tony. Shit bro, you undertook something that I don't think anyone imagined would be so big. I made a comment in the main forum that I thought the first amp, Lynch's SLO sounded good and got smacked! The other stand out from all the others was Mark's Aldrich mod, standing out being the key phrase. Everything else on the mod squad segment sounded like it was blanketed. I don't think you were recording them any different - all the same, same guitar, same player, same riff. They stood out as sounding good on the recording, or good enough to get my attention. And, you are probably right, people's faves didn't sound that good on the video, so there you go.

You are a martyr James!

Don't worry about it James. There will always be someone who is butt hurt because their amp wasn't the BEST of the whole ampfest. Every amp had the same time and effort put into it before it was recorded, if they thought the amp sounded bad, then tough shit. What's funny is many amps that some people say sounded bad ended up being other peoples favorites....it's all personal taste! So even to say an amp sounded BAD is just personal taste....not a fact whatsoever. It's so ridiculous to even say it was the way it was recorded, as opposed to just realizing it didn't sound as good as you hoped compared to all the other amazing amps under the same conditions. You rock and I'm glad I was able to be a part of it!

We all did our best, Mark included. I really appreciate him showing up, bringing amps and being a friend. It was very intense and we all did our best. Mark is a good dude and very talented.

I respectfull disagree. There were a lot of amps I heard in person that sounded bad during this recording...and some amps I have played in person that sounded like crap yet sounded good on this recording. That leads me to say it is the recording, not the amp. This in now way is a negative to James... it is what it is. I appreciate what James did for all of us.

I guess we all see it a different way. The recording is just bringing to light all the characteristics the amp actually has, in it's most pure form. By that I mean all the outside factors that affect the tone when you're listening to it in a room are not there.....just amp direct, up close and personal. So the recording, in my opinion, just brings out the nuances of the amp that you may not hear in a room. So it's still the amp, naked as it may be, that sounds that way.

Dave...

That's what I'm talking about! You CAN'T! Compare the Videos TO ANY AMP YOU HAVE HEARD IN PERSON!!!!!!! YOU CAN ONLY COMPARE THE AMPS IN THE VIDEOS TO EACH OTHER!!! :bash:

You are Listening To the Videos THROUGH COMPUTER SPEAKERS!!! Even If decent Monitors.... It will NEVER Sound Like A Guitar Cab In The Room In PERSON!

I don't understand what everyone is NOT GETTING?

I think that's a byproduct of that mod's bright nature. There's a lot of mids and high end (in a good way). You play it and then go to a different amp after it and that other amp will sound muddy in comparison. I can't imagine an Aldrich mod not being able to cut through in a mix.
