I'm glad I don't live in America. The polarisation there is even worse than here in Australia. That's what happens when you let your demographics change by letting outsiders flood in from cultures that aren't compatible. No country can stand divided and without a core foundation that people agree with i.e. a set of core cultural principles then the whole country's sense of identity is destroyed. Anyway we aren't far behind... The UK is also a cot case. Most western countries have destroyed their own cultures.

There is a lot of grey area. If someone is documented and licensed with a photo ID, it’s pretty close to not really being illegal anymore ya know?
America would be sunk without immigrants, legal and illegal. Always have, always will

Legal immigrants are one thing. Illegal should be plain and simple deportable and actionable. None of this have a baby once you cross the border and claim citizenship rubbish and all these other ploys etc. Most of these immigrants are economic opportunists - not refugees. There are billions of people living in the third world. If they flood in we'll all live in the third world. There are also reasons why they are the third world - some of it is cultural. Adopt their culture - become like them. Look at the former colonial nations in Africa for example since they reverted eg. South Africa, Kenya and Zimbabwe. I wouldn't want to live there.

Our country is much too reliant on illegal labor to ever actually try and eradicate it.
Im not saying it’s right, but it is the predicament we’ve been in for quite some time

Only problem with your statement is you think America is everything. it's just another western democracy like Australia. The US thinks their shit doesn't stink and they are somehow better. They aren't. They are just another ex-English colony that got tickets on themselves. The only thing they have on any of us is economies of scale due to population size. I'd rather live here with less people and the same standard of living. That said the country I live in now is not my country. It is radically different to the one I grew up in and I don't identify with it. They aren't my people.

America is unique and exceptional in its ideals and at least conceptually in its formation. The philosophical foundation of this country, while not practiced as much as preached, is radical. We revolted against the monarchy, Australia didn’t.

I agree, but that tension emanates from and between white born Americans more than immigrants IMO.

Sorry but I don't agree with "American Exceptionalism". The US isn't a race. America at its inception was mostly the same people as Australia/Canada (with a minor French faction thrown in I guess). Spitting the dummy at England means nothing other than you had a civil war before your civil war. Australia is a Constitutional Monarchy like Canada which means nothing really other than a rubber stamp on your legislation. Also, I'd rather have our system where the President isn't quite as powerful. When you get an unhinged sociopath or an old dementia patient watch out... The US is actually more of a democratic autocracy. Democratic republic vs democratic constitutional monarchy - I'd rather the latter. There are more checks and balances.

Actually, being able to track them because they have a drivers license has it's benefits. Besides that, if they actually have a license and aren't driving illegally they'll be less likely to flee the scene of an accident and actually call for help instead. Third, this gives them legal transportation to work so they are more likely to be productive citizens. Even though many send their earnings back home they still support local economies with rent and basic needs.

Not saying it's an ideal system. Just pointing out that it probably isn't as bad as some people think. Also it's something I need to do a little more research on to make my ultimate decision.
